Today i was hitting some irons at Dicks b/c of all the rain in the NE.  I hit a couple brands and was wowed by the Adams a4.  Seemed like every shot was right on top of the previous one.  Then i went and got an A7 and maybe hit that one even better...maybe.  They were so close i couldn't tell.  I was hitting the a7s slightly further but not much and maybe a little tighter, again not by much.  the a7's were stiff shaft and the a4's were regular, which may have played a part in it.  They did have the a4's in stiff in the back, maybe i'll go back and try those.

Anyway, the a4's were $100 cheaper and the set was 4h and 5i-gw.

the A7's were 3 and 4 hybrids and 5-pw.

I currently have a nike 53 degree GW that i like and a cobra baffler 3h that i like so the set combos don't help any.

Thoughts?  experiences with either or both?  Any and all info appreciated.  Thanks!

I just got the A7's.  I tested the A4's at Dicks as well and I felt like they were slightly less forgiving.  Im a much better swimmer than I am a golfer, so i leaned more towards the A7's.  Despite my frequent crappy shots, the A7's have performed really well up to now (Ive had them for a few months).  If anything, I think I just want to replace the grips on them, but thats personal preference.

By the way, if you want a good deal, look for a reputable seller on ebay.  I picked mine up for around $260 shipped brand new.

If its the correct A4's Im thinking of, there is a pretty significant difference, at least to me. The A4's are forged. The A7's are not forged. That being said, when I was looking for my new clubs I tried the A4's, the A7's, and the CB2's. I chose the CB2's, because they are forged and the feel was incredible. Oddly enough I wound up buying the A7 hybrids anyways. Haha. Seriously though, you really can't go wrong with any of those clubs or any of the Adams line these days. If you have a high handicap and don't really plan to drop significantly the A7's would in all honesty work best.

Good Luck!

In my Ogio bag.

I play the A4s and the are very good clubs.  They have a smaller head than the A7s but are forgiving.  They also are fairly high launch, which is why they are set with the DGSL shafts.  I wanted forged clubs without any plastic on the head, so I went the with A4s.

Thanks everyone, I ended up getting the A4's. I hit both iron sets about the same but the a4's completed my set better and were $100 cheaper.  All i needed to do was have my 53 wedge bent to 54 and now my wedges are perfect.  45, 50, 54 and 58!

Also, they felt really nice just chipping on my carpet, i just can't wait to game them.

If I look at the Adams website irons section I do not see A4's?.  If I search Adams's A4's they pop up on the Adams website.  Are they current?

They were replaced by the CB2 irons.  Both have similar forging with the CB2 having a tiny bit more mass behind the sweet spot.  I have the CB2 4 iron and use it with the A4 set.  They hit very similar.

Hope this is useful:  Used to game A2OS until I demo'd A7OS.  Not a marginal improvement across the board in performance, sound, feedback.  A quantum improvement.  Maybe the best irons in my 30 years of obsession with golf equipment.  So much so, that after I bought the set in graphite.  I decided I wanted my backup to be the same set in steel.

There is a bewildering amount of equipment aimed at the mid-handicapper.  Every major brand has a shortcoming, IMHO.  MIzuno's steel feel harsh when missed out toward the toe.  Callaways lack responsiveness.  Ditto Cobra, Cleveland.  Pings are no longer made by engineers.  They are made by a marketing company.  Their best work is behind them.  Example:  The A705s are light years better than G15 and Rapture V2.

These sticks made the gold category two years' running in Golf Digest.  The publication does not have a monopoly on wisdom but you can get an idea of what their testers discovered with these irons.

Good luck.

I hit both and couldn't tell much of a difference so I bought new sets of both. I took the A4R's out for a round 1st and after said round I promptly sold the A7's without removing the plastic. I still have the A4R's in the bag right now.

Folks, he is talking about the "retail' A4R irons and hybrid set. They are current, but for some reason not on Adams website. The A4 Forged are not a current model and you have to search to get the old website link.

I have a complete set of the cast Adams A4r's.  I was contemplating buying the forged A4 gap wedge and sand wedge.  I've seen people suggest combing sets in this manner in a discussion with the JPX800 (cast) and JPX800 (forged) and wanted to get people's thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Purely based on preference. I, personally, have 2 other sets of wedges that I carry no matter what irons I'm using that day and I believe the major, majority carry wedges that do not match there irons.

Yep, my sand wedge that greatly improved my plan 15 yards and in is a Cleveland.  I have a problem with "independent wedges" on fairway lies from outside that range though ... otherwise I would get a Cleveland 52 degree gap wedge and bend it down to 50 or 51 to match my previous set. I was hoping that getting forged in the GW and SW will improve my feel & consistency in my 20-100 yard game.

Not sure if this is the place for this. I was looking at both the A4 and A7. I chose the A7. I was looking for a graphite set due to my swing speed being so low.

The golf store listed the A7 as a graphite set. I was looking more into the set and it's features online and a few sites list the hybrids as having graphite shaft but the irons having a flex steel.

I'm now a bit concerned. I do know that come sets come in both steel and graphite. Can anyone shed some light for me?

The shafts has a label on it that stats, 85 series S-Flex. Did they list this set correctly by stating it's a graphite set or did I get 'shafted'.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
