standing at the chasm of 200+ yards over the pacific to the 16th green at Cypress Point...I nailed a 2 iron into a slight breeze to about 35 feet just left of the pin. The caddy comes over and hands me my putter and says "nothing like a nice long walk with your putter"...tears were coming down my cheeks...better than the 3 hole in one's or the double eagle.

On a par 3 and hooked I it left into a 10 wide ditch with water and overhanging trees. My buddy asked me if I wanted a drop but i said not, hit it out, and chipped in for birdie. Right in his face lolz

The first time I chipped in, it just feels great. Still feels awesome every time I do it, since it's very rare.

I was standing in the fairway on a par 4 and had about a 225 yd. shot to the green and was waiting on the group in front of us to finish putting.

These jerks playing behind us had been pushing us all day even though WE were the ones waiting on every shot (i.e. not playing slow). Finally, the group behind us started teeing off and hit several shots near us in the fairway and even grunted a few "hurry ups" assuming I would never reach the green on my approach shot.

Well, when the group finally left the green I hit one of the best shots of my life and landed it right smack on the green - best shot of my career

From that point on we didn't get pushed by the group behind us for the rest of the day

Great day and that was at least 8 years ago!

My best moment was the during my first year of playing golf. It was like my 4th or 5th time actually out on the course. We are playing a really short course with no par 5's over 500 yards. The first par 5 we come to is 388 from the whites. At about 200 yards there is a downhill slope with a stream running through so all average players have to lay up or deal with the water on the fly. I hit my driver and wound up in the flat about 5 feet from the stream. This puts me about 180 out up hill to the green. I hit my 4 or 5 iron (its been 8 years so i can't remember the club) perfect right where the green is. We get up there and can't find my ball anywhere. So i figure i must have put it over the green and i drop behind the green and chip up. I go to take the pin out and my ball is sitting in the cup. No one could believe what just happened. It felt great and that is truly the moment that hooked me on golf.

Anytime I played with my grandma.

So true. There will always be the individual things, but golf is a social game and it's always nice to have people arround you that you enjoy when you make the incredible shots.

I have a funny ongoing thing with my brother about chipping in. He had never chipped in before in his life. Every time I would do it (4 or 5 times a year), I would call him and tell him about it. We played in a tournament where the green was right next to a tee box that he was standing on and I chipped in right in front of him. We played a few weeks later and we came to a hole with a temp green and one of the extra large cups. He chipped in but I had to rag on him because of the big hole. Made for a lot of fun. I still don't think he has chipped in on a normal hole to this date.

I had just received my first set of clubs and was out in probably my 3rd round at 10 yrs old. Playing a long par 4, I was hitting a 7 iron from about 125 yrds out. I skulled the ball and it never went any higher than a foot off the ground. With about 25 yards to the front of the green, the ball hit a cart path sign and bent it just enough to launch the ball straight up in the air. After one bounce on the green it dropped straight in the cup for my first par ever.

Tied with:

Another long par 4 with a road that runs the entire length of the hole to the right. I sliced my drive and it started bouncing right down the middle of the road. After about 100 yrds of this a 1985 ford pickup ran the ball over and shot it dead left within about 15 yards of the green. A 450yrd drive.

i was going to say that for me, nothing can compete with my hole in one, but when i was playing with my brother (12 years old, never played golf before) on friday, seeing him birdie the second hole (102 meter par three) by driving the green with my 3 wood and sinking a 2 - 2 1/2 meter putt without even lining up, that was one of the best experiences i have had on a golf course, i just started laughing when it dropped.

Playing a quiet round with my wife in the cart on our anniversary this year. It was a colder than normal day but still nice and we got out on the course and it was just us. Great talk and I was hitting the ball really well which she got a charge out of.

Close second: Par 5 on the back nine of Lincoln West. Perfect drive off the tee which rolled up to almost 300 leaving me about 224 in. Pulled out the hybrid and just tattooed it and ran it up to within about 8 feet. Putted it out and walked away with my first eagle. THAT rocked.

my greatest moment has to be my hole on one. 187yds slightly downhill with a 6 iron. my second greatest is when i birdied 18 at rocky point to shoot my lowest round ever an 80, when all i needed was a bogey to shoot 82 and beat my previous best 83. so i was real happy to conquer the pressure i put on myself that day.

playing at Cane patch par 3 course in myrtle beach earlier this year. First time actually playing on a course not just on the driving range. My dad aces on his 8th hole ever (90yds I think), I birdied the 10th hole in front of about 40 people. First sub bogey score I ever got. What are the odds on that?

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
