Alright, I don't know how I came across it but has anybody tried or had a lesson on an Explanar.

While I have not bought a lot of golf training aides over the years (I only got back into golf seriously last year but played a couple of rounds a summer for several years before that) this seems like a pretty interesting concept for learning a more consistent swing.

What are your impressions...looks interesting but expensive is mine.

I spoke to my coach about iot and he was of the opinion that its a really good way for beginners/high handicappers to get the hang of the concept of swing plane.

I have worked really hard on plane over the last season and saw some great results. I still fall back into old habits and I still have to really accentuate the feeling. I like many people have misunderstood the whole takeaway issue, truning the shoulders too deep early on gets you trapped on the backswing and then forces a lift of the arms to the top.

Played 15 holes last night. Dropped 9 shote on the front, worked out what I was doing, focused on turning to the top of the swing and played the next 6 in 3 under par!!

The feel for me right now is: in/cock/turn on the backswing. Seems to be working a treat and am looking forward to the first medal in a couple of weeks.

I think a couple of explanar lessons would be a very worthwhile investment.

Not in the UK and definately couldn't get that purchase past the wife...would be a total melt down not to mention burning a massive and unwise hole in my wallet. I would like to try one out though but it doesn't look like there are any in Michigan. Maybe have to talk to my pro about it.

I've seen similar things in the past. Not so professional though. Basically a piece of wood with a whole cut in the middle held in place at an inclined plane. I'm sure you could build one yourself if you're desperate.... and a heck of a lot easier than staring at yourself in the mirror trying to work out whether you're on plane.

Alright, I don't know how I came across it but has anybody tried or had a lesson on an Explanar.

The Explanar is a great piece of equipment.

Quite a far bit removed from the old PVC hoops (I owned one of those too!) The most important aspects of the Explanar are: The Power Roller The Plane Fin The Radial Stance Mat & The setting of the hoop The old hoops had no where near the theory and scientific research to back up their usage that Explanar does. Set to the optimum biomechanical swing plane, the Explanar allows you to produce a swing that is truly "on plane" versus one that we *think* is on plane. Feel free to email me directly with any questions and I would be happy to help.

The Explanar is a great piece of equipment.

Friend of mine plays at a club which has one for coaching, its also available (for a fee) for others to use for warm up etc. which he does. He swears by it and his h/c has come down 3.1 this year.

    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
