I hate to mention this because I know how emotions flare on this subject, but the CSA flag and the Confederate Battle flag to some people represent an effort by their ancestors to defend their homeland against a Northern invader who would not allow them to secede from a union they had voluntarily joined and no longer wanted to be a part of.  When you read your history books remember who wrote them, the winner did.  I think one should also remember before they get to feeling the USA was so much more morally correct than the CSA that the USA flag flew over a slave abiding nation for over 80 years.  So ask yourself, why did the war occur at this time and not earlier in our history?  Politicians have not changed all that much over the years and you can bet the war was about more than just slavery.  But with a little study you can find that out for yourself.

And there are probably some people who believe the US attacked Japan first in WW2. They can believe what they want, it would nice if it some basis in fact though.

And there are probably some people who believe the US attacked Japan first in WW2. They can believe what they want, it would nice if it some basis in fact though.

Matter of fact many Japanese believe we started the war by having a naval blockade of their country.  The facts are we did blockade their country prior to being attacked to stop Japan's expansionists policies.  So who started the war between Japan and the USA is a matter of perspective.

Before I get called names I follow the tradition belief that we were attack and we responded.  But I have spend some time in Japan and have learned they have a different view of how and why the war started.

This will be my last post on this subject so I'll say that all I tried to get over to some is that "what you see depends upon where you stand".  What is so obvious to some just isn't how people of different perspective view the same events.  So if you look at what "the facts" are you'll usually find there are other "facts" you didn't think of or know of.  But it would seem these days most just want to believe what they believe without ever questioning those beliefs or why some others see it different.

A blockade is the physical presence of US war ships stopping commerce at Japans harbors. Are you saying this happened before Pearl?

References please.

If this were true, I think it would have been pretty hard for Yamamoto to sneak 6 aircraft carriers out.

We're getting off topic again. This thread is about Bubba buying a car from a TV show.

Boogielicious is correct we are way off topic.  My apologies to the OP.  This is my last comment on this thread. All I am saying is that different people have different views of what the Confederate Battle flag stands for and can make reasoned arguments to support that view. I won't address the Japan thing as you can read for yourself how the US denied the flow of Oil into Japan prior to Pearl Harbor (beginning July of 1941 I believe) and part of that denial was use of our Navy.

Again my apologies to the OP and I now have said all I intend on this thread.

It would have been pretty hard to do given the size of the Japanese fleet at the time.

The main thing I take from any comparison is that a lot of Japanese Americans were interred during the war, and I think many of the Southerners felt imprisoned in a similar manner after their war.

Thus, the act of defiance with by flying their old flag.

The latest, of course, is that many are changing their attitudes: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/07/09/haley-office-south-carolina-confederate-flag-to-be-removed-friday/

I think it's partially because the South is starting to boom economically again.

If we peel back the onion, I don't think it's Bubba he dislikes, it's what Bubba believes in and occasionally mentions publically ... this degree of pure vitriol is always based on an opposing belief.

LOL. This guy thinks TW approves of the traitor racist flag because he has been silent about it. Bubba spouts religious BS all the time and comes out against the traitor racist flag, thus he is a bigot. .

It's a confusing time between the ears of newnoggin.

So, it's ok t offend a big section of the population as long as they are black? Let's bring back segregation, Amos n Andy, minstrel shows I'm sure that wouldn't be offensive to a lot of people. This flag might represent heritage to some, but it represents the heritage of people owning other people to some people, as well. If black people say this flag represents racism, then, it does. I have never been a big Bubba fan, but now I am.

There is no law that guarantees you against offense. That's is ludicrous. We were the land of the free, not the land of the politically correct and emotionally protected. Everyone is such a cry baby these days. "I don't like that, my feelings are hurt, someone has to conform to my bullying in the name of anti-bullying." I guess we should start ripping down, demolishing, and pissing on the ashes of the great pyramids, you know, because they're "offensive" to Jews who's ancestors were enslaved and forced to build them. Oh, they aren't complaining? Everyone else take note. The Holocaust was a lot more recent than the American slave trade (which was initiated by Africans).

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

No banning. I just wanted to steer us back. It's a mods job.

In regards to his car, as he is removing the confederate flag from the roof and replacing it with thr stars & stripes, surely that would actually de-value the car. Afrer all its the number 1 chassis used in the opening credits, the one that any collector would want. yes, you could say it could be re painted uf he sold it to restore the originallity and i think he'd have to otherwise it wouldnt sell.

Its a shame he's had to do it but i can understand the reason why. As long as he can keep the horn!

Has anyone lost some respect for him since in july he said he would be changing his general lee to the american flag instead of the confederate and from what I understand he has not yet changed it? He was just lying to look good for the sake of political correctness. He is a great golfer and I respect him for that but there is no need to say your going to do something to appease a certain group of people or make a political stand when your not even going to follow through with it

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
