Took my trusty Burner 3 wood regular flex to see what all the "hoopla" about the RBZ is. I'm 60 years old and hit my Burner 3 wood about 210 yards. I hit 10 balls on the monitor with it and averaged 208. Hit 10 shots with an RBZ regular shaft...averaged 228.Β Hit 10 shots with an RBZΒ STIFF shaft...averaged 237 !!! The pro told me that although my swing wasn't exactly calling for a Stiff shaft, the monitor showed a more penetrating ball flight still going right down the middle with the stiff shaft.

Bottom line...walked in hitting 208...left hitting 237.

I am a believer.

It's a stiff, no doubt because TM stock shafts are so bad, you've got to go up a flex (or so my club maker tells me). And I've found him to be correct.

Did you try out any other modern clubs to see if the RBZ is longer/straighter than them?

I hit the R11S and the Titleist 910F but neither where as long as the RBZ... The R11S was roughly the same as my CallawayΒ where as the Titleist was slightly longer due to the higher launch angle. The only shaft for the 910 was the Rayon Diamana Blue which i found launched a little higher than i'd like.

On a side note, i didnt care much for the R11S both fairway and driver. I dont know if anyone else has hit them but i found that they where dull. I didnt like the original R11 for that reason. Its like hitting the ball with a damp cloth. I found the RBZ to feel hot and theΒ 910 was just Titleist solid, as per...

I'LL have to disagree with you on the R11s Fairway.Β  Mine feels pretty hot and i picked up maybe 10 yards over my old R9 3 wood.Β  But its whatever performs the best for each player. Everybody is different.

I did try the Adams 12 3 wood with the same "velocity slot" technology as the RBZ. Great club, but the most I got out of it was 217. Gonna go back tomorrow and look at the drivers, but I normally hit my driver around 220 to 230. I used my old Burner 3 wood off the tee most of the time because I normally play 3 days a week and there have been times I havn't missed a fairway in a month. The RBZ 3 wood is now 237 and soo easy to hit I don't see many fairways missed in my near future, so I'm wondering if I should even bother putting a driver in my bag anymore?

Try the Adams 9088 UL 10.5 or 12.5. I got more than 7 mph faster swing speed with it over a Taylormade Superfast 2.0 Driver. Of course, my driver is not stock -- it is 45 inches with a Fuji Blur 55g. The 12.5 eliminates more sidespin.

Forgot to mention this...this was the FIRST time I ever used a launch monitor to buy a golf club...and I won't ever buy irons or woods without one again! Yeah,Β I know it's not the same as being on the course, but it IS "Apples to Apples" when comparing clubs. I took my golf shoes, my glove, and a couple of sleeves of the same balls I always play with. Makes a difference.

i'm waiting on my friend giving me $300 for the clubs he bought off me to pick up the RBZ tour 3W and the tour 3H...i'm sold. i did the side by side with mine and averaged 10 longer with the 3W and 15 with the hybrid. stupid long distance. i cannot WAIT for my driver to get here tomorrow...but since i'm special ordering the 3W and hybrid after i order them, it's gonna be agony.

Not if lofts on different models aren't the same.

Definately agree, because even the RBZ 3 wood comes in a 17* "High Launch" model. I was hitting that one 214. I don't know if all monitors are the same, but what I liked was each club I hit showed the flight path in a different color. REALLY shows the trajectory difference between clubs.

Just played my first round with the rbz 3 wood stiff shaft. Β dramatic distance increase. Β  my old sonatec went about 230 max Β I was 255 out on a second shot on a par five and hit over the green!

may I ask where did you go to be fitted by a launch monitor like that ?Β Β Β  The only ones I've seen are at Golfsmith & always a challenge to find somebody that knows what they're doing to even work the machine

Given all the longer distances reported, I also wondered if there is a need for a driver. When they go on sale, I will take a look at the RBZ 3 wood. Thanks for the report, everyone.

    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on.Β πŸ˜‰ Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.Β  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seemΒ  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
