Meghan most definitely is not natural. Check her website and there are pics of her from 1, maybe 2 yrs ago. No way she developed that much without help.

They announced Meghan will be on The Golf Fix with Michael Breed tonight at 7 PM - he's going to work on her (swing).    The girl that is eliminated each week will be on Breed's show the day after ...

I finally caught an episode last night, but wasn't paying as close attention as I should have. But I think I saw one of the girls has a UC Irvine hat, so unless she's wearing it for irony, I'm rooting for her.

Hasn't your instructor ever told you to keep your chest down through impact? Imagine how much easier it would be with some 5lb weights helping out.....

Whoever the girl that won the elimination challenge was crying in the middle of the challenge, seriously? I want to watch a show about good golfers competing against each other, not a show with slightly (possibly) above average golfers who can't make it through the first elimination challenge without losing it emotionally. But even besides that little bit at the end, the whole show just seems so forced. It's like the girls are there to be on TV, not there to win. I'll skim through some of the next few episodes, but I have no interest in watching a "golf" show with catty women being passive aggressive towards each other that don't even have that much talent.

Also, Meghan giving up on a college career to play on the big break? What was she thinking?

When she said that, I immediately said out loud "no you didn't."

I mean, I don't know what the facts are, but I can't imagine somebody who was on the active playing roster quitting for Big Break.  It would make more sense if she wasn't actually playing for her University's golf team and so she quit to try Big Break.  I'm sure somebody can dig up the particulars.

And was one of the girls actually crying mid-challenge?  I thought they were both crying in their post-round confessionals.

I don't know all the facts, only as much as everyone else here does, but she made it sound like she chose Big Break over the potential career in college golf (19 would put her somewhere in her Freshman year). Not the best choice there in my opinion.

And also, in reference to Kelly (I think that was her name, could be wrong), she was barely holding it together on her third shot and had to step away from her putt two to three times. Quite frankly I was amazed that she made it. All I can say is, you're not gonna win the big break with nerves like that.

I like Allison and the Texan girl (forget her name), her voice is horribly annoying but she seems good!

edit: yeah I wish it weren't so emotional, it IS a reality TV show but it's also golf.... she backed away a bunch of times from that putt, she'll be out next week

Her name was Sellanee or something like that.  Kelly is the older girl that is stacked like a brickhouse and was immune after the glass-break.

That girl Sellanee seems talented but mentally fragile, I agree.

So here's my idea for a new "golf based" movie! A couple of guys dress up like women to participate in an all female Big Break! Kind of like "Bosom Buddies" or "White Chicks" but with golf. I'm working on a title but I think this is BIG!

OK - on a more serious note (or as serious as BB deserves) 1) Shannon's voice isn't doing it for me. And Zakina scares me. 2) Meghan didn't give up a golf scholarship for this did she? 3) I want the job to carry the girls across the pool so they don't get wet for the photo shoots. Just sayin'.

I watched that first episode, and my pick to win would be Anya (Thick Legged Girl) from PA.

I did some research on Meghan Hardin and it looks like she won a tournament at Cal State San Marcos and had a full scholarship there. Apparently her coach favored seniority over performance/scores for qualifying so she gave up her scholarship transferred to the junior College Palomar hoping to move up a division.  At Palomar her scoring record to November 2011 was 76.4 in Conference. She won 2nd place at regionals shooting a 74, 76 and her team won the CCCAA State Championship. She talks about in interviews how she was being offered scholarships at D1 schools such as Long Beach and Irvine but decided to participate as contestant on the Big Break instead. I saw that she played in her first professional tournament the other week playing against some known players from schools such as Pepperdine and other big name colleges. She played at Ocotillio and shot a first bad round of 79. I have been reading her posts and I guess she started off with a triple and then two doubles on the front her first day but was able to recover by shooting a 35 on her back nine. But then improved every day shooting 77, 76. Not bad for a 19 year old in her first professional tournament.

After seeing a re-run, I really like Allison, along with Natalia... And it looks like when a contestant is eliminated, they appear on that week's Big Break Academy episode, so that's kinda cool too...

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
