I have missed out on quite a few things for a game of golf.......

My main one was missing my wedding rehearsal and arranging for someone to stand in for me (my wife loved that)

Come the big day I had no clue what was happening

LOL... I can't believe your wife (or her family) let you get away with that! Hahhahah

I can't think of anything major that I've missed while golfing.  A lot of dinners/lunches with the wife.  But she is pretty forgiving.

Sorry man, but unless you're making money playing golf, that is horrible...  I'm amazed you found a wife, and that there are two families out there that would find that acceptable...

I've skipped stuff for golf.  Plenty of meetings and family functions that I didn't feel like going to, but I'm a horribly punctual person so I always leave a ton of time between rounds and afterwards.  Pretty sure if I missed my wedding rehearsal my father in law would have shot me right on the spot.

Many years ago, I missed almost my entire freshman Trigonometry course due to college golf team practice/matches. Still did well enough on the exams for a B, though. I never miss anything for golf these days.

My wife's family are all from southern Italy - Calabria and Sicily.  If I did that, it would be considered an extreme insult and I'd be sleeping with the fishes!

What have you missed for golf?     Hahahaha.......it reminds me of a golf joke.

Four golfers who like to gamble wind up in the same foursome. The pot builds throughout the day until they reach the 18th green, where Charlie has a chance to putt for dough. If he makes his 10-foot putt, he wins $200,  Charlie lines up his putt, but just as he's about to take his stance, a funeral procession begins passing by on the road that runs alongside the 18th hole.  Charlie steps away from his ball, sets down his putter, takes off his hat and places it over his heart, and waits for the funeral procession to completely pass. Once all the cars in the funeral procession have finally passed, Charlie picks up his putter and begins lining up the putt again.

"Wow," one of his opponents says. "That was the most touching thing I have ever seen. You've got a makeable putt for $200, yet you stopped and paid your respects. You really are something."

"Well," Charlie says, "I owe her that, because she was my wife of 35 years."

What's in Paul's Bag:
- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Driver
- Big Bertha Alpha 815 3-wood
- Callaway Razr Fit 5-wood
- Callaway Big Bertha 4-5 Rescue Clubs
-- Mizuno Mx-25 six iron-gap wedge
- Mizuno Mp-T4 56degree SW
- Mizuno Mp-T11 60degree SW
- Putter- Ping Cadence Ketsch

OK, I'm probably in trouble right now.  My wife is selling this skin care stuff and is just starting up her business.  I live in Saudi Arabia and she arranged to have a booth at the local big event here selling her product.  Well, her visa didn't come through in time so she wanted me to sit in that booth and sell this potion or whatever it is to all the ladies!!  There was a major tournament that I'd signed up for.  It's a two day team event called the Aramco President's Cup.  I couldn't let down my team!!  There were 42 teams in the event and we won!!  But I had to blow off the make-up selling.  She's gonna be pissed when she gets here.  Her visa just got approved and she'll be here in a couple of days.

BTW - it was worth it!!!

If it was just to go play a round of golf with his buddies then yeah that is terrible.  If he had a once in a life time chance to play in some big tournament in his area then maybe I could see it haha.

Nothing, I have missed nothing important due to golf and that is a very sore subject in my house, because my father has missed some important things due to golf, one of them being my daughters graduation from High School.  I very much enjoy golfing, but I will not put it ahead of family obligations.

Now my father-in-law probably wishes I had missed some important events, like my wedding, but out of spite I stayed married to his daughter going on 30 years now!

I wish I had chose to golf over getting married

I dont go out drinking, leering at women and I am a great dad.

    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
