I was watching the coverage today and every time I saw JB Holmes I was reminded of how I don't like black golf gloves. Now, I have nothing against black colored apparel; I have several pairs black shoes, I wear black pants most weekdays, I have black hats, and I have plenty of other black attire as well. I can't put my finger on why, but black golf gloves just look wrong to me.

Anyone else share this sentiment?

I'm with you! I have absolutely no reason why I don't like the black glove look, I just do. I think they look wrong, like they don't belong. I suppose some people feel the same way about Tiger's shoes....but those I like...go figure. ;-)

Let's see ... I bought a 3 pack of golf gloves at Costco, who knows, maybe 4 years ago now.  It had 2 white ones and one black one (no idea why) and I've gone through the 2 white ones and countless others I've bought since then ... and that black one is still in the package in my bag.  It's unused in perfect condition so I can't bring myself to throw it out, but I have no inkling to want to wear it.

I wouldn't buy one, but it doesn't bother me if someone wears one.

Hybrid -  Edge 21*
Irons - X20's 4I - 9I

I wear all black. Hat, shoes, shirt, pants and black gloves on both hands. Keeps me warm in the cold and makes people wonder how I can stand in the sun on a 95* Ohio summer day and not sweat. Hey I need every advantage I can get

I have a rational reason for not liking black coloured golf gloves. It is already so hot, sunny and humid in my city, I don't need black coloured gloves to make me even hotter and stickier. White gloves all the way!

Robbers, limo drivers, and and hitmen are the only professions that come to mind that rock black gloves. I don't think any golfer is trying to emulate the look of either of those 3, so I'll assume that's where the dislike comes from. Hell, even construction workers and ditch diggers wear some brown or orange gloves.

Do a google search for asher deathgrip - the wife got it online, just not sure which website

As a sidenote, you may want to order one size larger than normal - they run a little bit on the small side.

Hey don't be "Player-Hating" the black glove,,,lol!

I'm by no means a fashion type dresser but I do like coordinating the shoes/glove/belt/hat.

Dark clothes: I'll wear a black/navy hat, black belt, black shoes, black glove.

Light clothes: I'll wear white/tan hat, white shoes, white belt, white glove.

That's about where fashion ends for me, I have no plans of going to the all Orange outfits anytime soon!

In My Bag:
Driver: :Cobra Amp Cell Pro 9.5*, Stock X-Flex

3 Wood: :Cobra Bio Cell 16*, Stock X-Flex

5 Wood: Cobra Bio Cell 20*, Stock S-Flex
Irons: Bridgestone J40-CB 3-PW, Project-X 6.0

Gap Wedge::Vokey: 52* CNC

Sand Wedge: :Vokey: 58* CNC

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
    • day 34. Technique practice. Became too quick and outcome oriented. need to slow down and work on technique again.
    • Day 534, April 18, 2024 Practice before lessons today. Priority piece. No sim this time. 🙂
