good wedges for a high handicap player?

I'm looking to replace the very dead feeling Nike Sumo2 A and S wedges from my current club set with wedges that have better feel and can give the ball a bit more action.  I'm open to used wedges so suggestions don't need to be limited to just whats on the market now.

I'm still a new player so keep that in mind and where I get the most confused is the type of grinds and bounce angles on the different wedges and how they would make the club react differently in different conditions.

If you have a good golf shop in your area, talk to the club fitters about wedges. Sometimes, golf shops will have a free scoring clinic in which a pro show players the ins and outs of wedges and chipping.

It seems that everyone of your posts implies--"If it ain't used on the tour by top players-it ain't shit"!  Do you work for a golf manufacuter or you just brainwashed?

I like the Vokey SM4 and Callaway Forged wedges.  I've never tried TM wedges, I considered the ones with the changeable face but they discontinued them right when I was about to buy them so I decided not to.  Both produce great spin, but the Vokeys seem to be rougher on golf balls.

Might also consider Cleveland or Edel wedges.  I didn't like the CG1X versions, but a lot of people like the 588's.

Consider the following:

OP, Scratch golf makes some nice wedges in the 100$ range, but they have a fitting tool on their website that might help you pick how much bounce you want. A live fitting is best, and most of the mass produced wedges are all pretty good depending on how they fit you. Don't believe the hype; the sole is more important than anything else on the wedges, the grooves don't do all they advertise.

If you are interested in Vokey, he has about 3 different sole grinds for each loft between 54-60. You need to review their site to see which one might fit, or find a demo day.

I know you want nice shiny new ones, but my advice is to shop the thrift stores, goodwill, salvation army shops and buy a few old ones. Then learn to re-grip those old ones, use a bit of sandpaper to shine them up and start practicing.  Buy a pitching, gap, lob and sand wedge and learn the difference.  At higher handicaps the clubs count for 2% of the scoring, the ball, 1%, the balance is your technique, skill and confidence. Every good golfer has a garage full of clubs.

well i just thought id get like almost brand new clubs just because i want them to last a long time

every manufacturer has a different sole grind. some are more rounded at the bottom and some, for me, are easier to align with the straighter sole grind. its all about feel and the type of swing you have which will determine what kind of bounce you want. Correct me if im wrong but most new golfers like to have a high bounce..?

I had fun at a demo day trying out some wedges and realized the differences from person to person do make a big difference. my old sand wedge had a rounded sole and i didn't like hitting it from the fairway. just personal preference but once you try a few you will know what suits you best.

adams makes a nice 3 wedge set that i think comes in 52, 56, and 60 for like $100?

If i werent playing titleist id have clevelands in my bag.

however mizuno, nike, taylormade all have nice wedges and the TM atv atually come with a bounce that 'changes' for each kind of shot you want to play so all you would need is to get the lofts that you want.
