Nike V-Rev Wedges

In follow up to my previous post about wedges for a high handi-capper, I have been looking around and some of my options and I came across a great deal for a 3 wedge set of the Nike V-Rev wedges.  I've been looking around at reviews and they seem to get pretty good ones at most places I've seen.  Since these are discontinued it's going to be close to impossible to swing these exact wedges, especially as a lefty.  I have had a chance to swing the newer Nike VR wedges with the high frequency grooves or whatever they call them and they felt pretty good, nice weighting etc.

I'm just curious if anyone on here has hit or is hitting these wedges and what they're thoughts are on them compared to spending a bit more for something like the Cleveland CG-14/16 or Cobra Big Trusty Rusty which also felt pretty good when I swung them.

I'll chime in!

I have these wedges and have been playing them for about 2 months now and have found that they perform very nicely. One thing that I like about these clubs is that they have a fantastic sole grind that is very versatile in all conditions; firm, soft, tight, fairways, sand. Some people have complained that these offer no spin compared to the older groove patterns that were very aggressive to begin with but these offer great spin.

I am coming from the VR Forged wedges that played the same in terms of sole grind and turf interaction but the Vrev wedges don't chew up golf balls and you still get really nice spin! I am currently using the 20XI-S, so I am getting great spin and have been able to stop balls on a dime with these wedges. I had about a 35 yard shot, hard-pan lie with dirt and played it with the face open with my 58, one hop and it stopped dead 10 in. from the pin. I have hit a couple of shots similar since then but it was really eye opening.

Overall, great wedges, durable, feel great and have an amazing sole grind like I stated above....

Thank you for the feedback.  I was able to find the set of 3 wedges 52/56/60 for like $150 so for that price it definitely seems worth it.

Honestly, I'm not good enough at this point to really notice the spin difference and to me the fact they won't shred the balls like the older ones did is definitely a good thing!  I'm looking at these as a set I'll keep through my next set of irons and maybe longer than that and they will definitely be a big step up from the Sumo2 wedges that came with the Sumo2 Hybrid Irons set I bought to reacquaint myself to the game after 12 or so years off.

My sand wedge is a v-rev and I enjoy it. Good feel and I am able to get decent spin on the ball. Ball doesn't come off the face too hot and I am able to control chips from just off the green pretty well. $150 for three is a good deal, definitely recommend the investment.

I also play these with 10° bounce.  For those that say they don't produce enough spin I would blame their swing.  I find myself trying to reduce the amount of spin I put on the ball for longer shots.  I feel they are great clubs and very affordable.

Well I ended up picking up the 3 pack for $99 today along with a new Yes! putter shipped next day to more door for under $200!  I look at like this... if I hate them for some reason I can always re-sell them for virtually what I paid via ebay.  Considering I'm playing terrible wedges that came with my Sumo2 set I can't see myself not like these especially for what I paid for them.

I know this is an older thread but was wondering how the Nike wedges worked out for you? I will be getting a new sand wedge and maybe gap or lob this upcoming season and the prices for Nike wedges seem to be around $69 per club. thanks

I hope you see this reply, it's been a while since you last posted.  WIth that said, these wedges do perform well for the price.  I've seen them a little cheaper then $69, I believe it was on rockbottomgolf.

After the initial getting comfortable phase of learning the new clubs I can say they were a huge improvement over the set wedges I was playing previously.  I am far from an expert player but I could definitely feel the difference and the spin was significantly better with these.  I'm still terrible out of the sand but that's more about my swing then the wedge.  For the price you can find these for now I would not hesitate to pick them up if you haven't already.  I got mine from Rockbottomgolf.com and they seem to have the best prices on them anywhere I've seen.  I got a 52,56 and 60 for $99 at the time.

      First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.

      I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?

      What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛

      It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
