Yeah, I don't know, but there is apparently a lot of stuff (according to some people on here) that gets you labeled as a 'poser.'  Off the top of my head:

white belts

bright shirts

white pants

nice clubs (if you aren't very good)

crappy clubs (if you aren't very good)

nice clubs that are all one brand

a bag that is the same brand as your clubs

a monogrammed bag

hats that match your clubs or balls

And that is all just stuff from recent threads on here.  Why do so many people have opinions on stuff that makes 0% of difference in their lives?  You got me.  Keep on rocking the pants, my man!

Edit:  Forgot to answer the question ... I voted C, I wear shorts usually until it gets a little chilly (It's socal, so maybe a week a year in February??) and then I will break out the pants.

Soooo.....there is a dress code. In order to play golf anywhere, you have to agree to the dress code for that course.

And universal "dress code", at minimum, is no jeans or tank tops. And usually more stringent than that.

If you wear shorts all the time, then wearing shorts isn't an issue. You have a reason to purchase nice shorts so you don't have to worry if your shorts meet the dress code. You also don't have to worry about baring your ghost legs that haven't seen the sun in 8 months and scaring dogs and small children.

I think guys, other than golf pros, who wear pants in 80+ degree weather, who aren't doing so for a medical reason (particular sensitivity to temperature or sun or are covering up a hideously scarred leg, etc...) but are doing so for the sake of "decorum," "tradition" or "respect for the game" are simply pompous and full of themselves, trying to emulate a PGA Tour pro like an 11 year-old girl tries to emulate her favorite pop star.

I've been told that people in Africa and other such hot climates laugh at visitors (both American and European) because they don't know how to keep cool.  They wear shorts and short-sleeve T-shirts and then lather on the sunblock.  But if you'll notice, a lot of the locals are wearing long pants and light shirts.  The idea is that you're cooler if you keep the sun off your skin.  I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but it makes some sense.  However, I would also think humidity plays into the equation.  While it might work for dry heat, it probably won't work as well for sticky, humid heat.  (You don't see the natives running around the rain forrest in long pants)

Personally, as one who has had two basil-cell carcinoma's (typically non-dangerous skin cancer), I'll wear pants whenever I feel like it and I don't give a flip what anyone thinks.  However, when I do wear shorts, I ALWAYS wear sunscreen, so my legs are as white as the day is long.  A terrible sight for those around me I'm sure, but nothing I can do about it.  Safety first.

That is all very true, spicy food helps keep you cool as well. I also find pants give the mozzies and blackflies less surface area to munch on.

Here's the women's dress code (below). Skirts by no skorts seems weird. Is it someone's job to check that sort of thing? Reagan Terrace and private party rooms is a dress, dressy skirt and blouse, suit, tailored pants suit, pants and blazer or evening pants outfit following the length guidelines above. · Ladies’ may wear brimmed hats coordinating with their outfits in the Clubhouse; no caps or visors. WOMEN’S GOLF COURSE ATTIRE · Women’s shirts and blouses must be worn inside slacks or skirts, unless designed to be worn outside. All shirt tails must be tucked in. · Blouses or shirts that would allow the midriff to be exposed during golf play are not permitted. · Women’s slacks must be tailored and within 6” of the ankle. · Skirts must be no shorter than 4” above the knee. · Caps and visors are permitted on the golf courses and the Terrace Lounge’s Lower Terrace, but not in the Clubhouse. · Approved attire for wear on the golf courses is also acceptable in the informal areas of the Clubhouse.

That 's one reason why I've never even looked into joining a club.  They're so stuffy that you can't breathe.

Open your eyes and look around.  Show me where you find a "universal" dress code.  There is no such thing.  Each course sets its own conditions.  I can name at least 4 courses within 20 minutes of my house outside of Denver where you would be wrong in your above description.  I can name one which charges $75 a round which still allows denim.

But that is at the extreme end of things.  The 'member equity clubs' as I think they are called, that require you to get an existing member to sponsor you before you can join are the type that I imagine are all closer to the stuffy side of things, but I wouldn't actually know because I've only been to one.

There are a lot of clubs out there that are very casual as well.

A few of the top 10 rated public courses in Alberta allow denim. The top 3 public courses in my area allow it. Not very many people wear it, but it's allowed. One reason they allow it they make a lot of money mid-week in company tournaments and if they turned away once-a-year golfers based on attire they'd get less repeat business.

There is a universal dress code, and most people follow it- collared shirt, with slacks or shorts. If you want to dress like white trash, jeans and a cut off shirt... Go right ahead. I wouldn't golf at a place like that. Would love to know the name of the club charging 75 allowing denim. Name???

Not saying I'd show up in jeans, but some do and they're A.) not turned away and B.) find players. A cut off shirt though? Can't say I've ever seen that allowed on any course anywhere any time.

I get that people like to do their own thing but I don't understand the folks that don't observe the dress code. I wouldn't wear jeans to the course just like I wouldn't wear golf threads to an AC\DC concert. But I blame the courses for not enforcing the code more than the doofus that shows up wearing a wife-beater.

Being a Colorado resident I can attest to Fourputt's comment about courses here allowing jeans, or worse. Unfortunately I see it all the time. Played behind some guys last night wearing work clothes, watched them get into Halliburton trucks (oil field service) after they finished.

I prefer frequenting the places that enforce the code but the courses near my house are the only ones I can make it to and get in golf after work before dark. On the weekends I play at my parents club and they won't let you drink a beer in the bar if you have jeans on. Can't get into the dining room without a jacket if you're a guy.

Dave :-)

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
