My renewal for my current club will be $85.  I didn't play in any of their tourney's this year, so really all I'm using the club for is my GHIN.

I'd like to save money next year, and join another club that's cheaper.  Does anyone recommend an internet club? (I see greenskeeper quit doing theirs last year).   Or another course club in the LA/OC area?   If I can save close to $50, I'll quit my current club, otherwise, I'll just keep it.

Thanks!

In my Grom Stand bag:

Driver: Ping G20, 8.5 Tour Stiff
Wood/Hybrid: G20 3W, Raylor 19*, 22*
Irons: R9 5I - SW, TM CGB LW

Putter: Scotty Cameron Kombi-Mid

Favorites: Old Ranch (Seal Beach), Ike/Babe (Industry Hills), Skylinks (Long Beach), Desert Willow (Palm Desert)

I joined an internet club for this year through the Golfsmith website.  However, I wouldn't recommend it because it's not affiliated with SCGA.  It is an "official" USGA handicap, and says so very clearly on their website, but that doesn't mean that everybody knows that.  For example, I played in a tournament this year and because my number didn't show up on SCGA website the guy couldn't find me.  It turned out to be a big hassle.

I also belong to the player's club at Talega GC, down here in San Clemente (quite a ways from Long Beach, I know), which was a steal at $170.  It included 2 free rounds of golf, and 12 free buckets of balls on the range ... such that my net cost was negative.  For an extra $40, I could have tacked on an SCGA membership.  They raised the price this year (230 I think), but the net price is still negative and this time I am going to sign up for the SCGA membership.

I think you can join (Beachcomber does this, I believe) online at Golfnow.com or click4teetimes.com and actually get an SCGA membership.  Don't know the price though.

You might look into the program offered through the Worldwide Golf Shops (Roger Dunn, Golf Mart, Vans Golf Shops).     I don't recall the exact cost but I think it was pretty cheap.    The link below has a contact email you could try for more info, or just stop by any of their shops.

By the way, you won't save tons of money as I think that the SCGA fee alone is $30 (this is what the internet club has to pay the SCGA), so don't expect a $25 total membership.

If we change clubs (I'm currently using click4teetimes)... And sign up for a new service provider... Will I retain my GHIN?  Or will I be issued a new GHIN?  I'd like to keep the same one considering I've played 66 rounds this season alone.  And would hate to lose that historical reference of how I've improved over time.

You already have a GHIN, so I'm pretty sure that they will be able to look it up and have all of your info already there.

For me, since I have some sort of goofy "fake" number, I am just going to print out and retain all of my last 20 scores when I switch over, and hopefully they will let me manually enter old scores.

On another note, I am signing up for the Golf Channel Am tour this year and they keep a HDCP for you as well, which they also say is "Official USGA" so hopefully this one will actually come with a GHIN.

Well, there you go ... you're not going to do better when asking a question about the SCGA that getting an answer from "thescga."  Case closed.

Let me know what you're looking at on the GCA tour. Sounds fun.

Thank you, Sir! I'd toast you, but I'm on my iPad. FML
