What are the coldest temps you've ever played a round of golf in?

Coldest I've played in was somewhere around the low 60s.  In the last 6 or 7 months, we haven't even had one day where the average temperature was below 60.  Today, for instance, is slightly cooler than it's been for a while, it's 70 right now.

Let's not torture the Northerners too much. . . :-D

Yeah, I guess that's a bit cruel.  I think we are pretty spoiled.  On the other side of the ledger we do have a lot of traffic and high cost of living.

Plus, you know very well we get down into the mid 40's at least one or two morning out of the year. . . :-$

Actually, I really like skiing and if you can hit our local mountains with enough of them. . .

Many years ago, I caddied in a country club event which took place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. A couple of years the ground was frozen (about 25*F), as was a lake on a Par 5. Everyone tried to land a 5i in the middle of the lake and bounce on in two.

Final time I caddied in it, temperature was about 40* and it was foggy. Player A's caddie put down his bag in  treeline to help look for player B's ball, and then couldn't find player A's bag because of the fog. A greenskeeper found the bag the next day after the fog had lifted.

Personally, I won't play if it's much below 50* F.

Coldest I've played is the mid to upper 50s and even that I'm not a fan of.  If it's below 55 I'll find something else to do.

55 degrees in Idaho, isn't that shorts weather for most locals?   LOL

Coldest I've played was during my business trip to Asia during winter months.  One of the clients is a golf nut and it was -5 *F and still wanted to play.  So I obliged.  I couldn't swing very well with all that layer of clothing.

During a January day here in so. cali, we had a 6 am tee time. There was ice on the ground, though it was pretty thin, But..there was a breeze that was about 8 to 10 mph. The club house had a thermometer on the wall, which read 48 degrees, and that was inside, so I'm guessing the air temp outside was around 40, maybe a tad higher.

The first 4 holes were pretty sucky, hard to hit a golf ball when your shivering...lol I would much rather play in the rain if it was warmer..

Not sure, I've only been here about 4 months.  It's just recently started getting cold enough where I won't play.

I've played at right around freezing. That's pretty much my limit. I have to walk in those temperatures though. It actually makes it a lot better to play in.

Mid 40s for me.  But I may break that this weekend.  I haven't played in a couple of weeks and want to get another round in.  It will be high 30s tomorrow and low 40s on Sunday.  I don't mind the temp as much as the bulky clothing.

2011 - cold winter, but very little snow in PA ... so found places to play all the way through.    Played in the 20's a lot - can't recall playing in the teens.     Only problem is wedge shots bounce right off the frozen greens (just about as bad as hitting a cart path) - have to change your approach to hit before the green & allow for the additional roll out...

43 degrees - just this past Sunday.  Perfect day on the course, only committed golfers, very laid back atmosphere, met a new playing partner.  Going to try to play each month this Winter if there are days free of snowcover.

Mid to upper 30's... It was in February with a bright sun and no wind. I was down to shirtsleeves by the 5th hole. I DID have long johns on, though. Unfortunately, about the 10th hole it started clouding over. the breeze picked up a bit, then it started snowing. Real squall line of snow pushed through. Temp hadn't really dropped and the ground was warmed up by the earlier sun so it didn't really stick in fairways or on the greens. It finally stopped a few holes later and it looked like those desert courses in the winter with the dormant Bermuda wrapped around the bright green fairways. Except it was WHITE surrounding the fairways and greens. Quite beautiful in it's own way.

In early May about 15 years ago I was playing at the Garland Resort which is about 3 hours north of Detroit. This was a yearly weekend outing, 36 on Friday and 36 on Saturday but in Michigan that time of year is hit or miss. That afternoon was sunny but about 40 with periodic snow. It was great fun due to the nature of the foursome and we drank a lot of hot chocolate that day. I don't mind playing when it's in the 40's as long as the sun is out and the wind is down.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
