Suggestions for SGI Clubs

I'm looking at Super Game Improvement clubs (I'm brand new and I suck); do you have any suggestions on brands and models I can research and try out?

Take a lesson and demo some cubs and you too will not suck as bad. All the best!

i think it takes a lot less time to graduate from SGI to GI than it is to do so from GI to Player's (if you even ever can).  point is, i think if you're shopping SGI, go to the used market.  in a year or so you'll surely want something with a bit more playability if you're going to be a frequent player.  i'd spend money on clubs that i intended to keep longer, and my guess is you're more likely to keep GI's faster.

How about, if you ever want to . GI clubs are the best of both worlds, if you have an OK swing.

Ping g20's....get custom fitted.

Make sure you can get some time in with whatever you buy. My first set of Irons were Ping G10's, and frankly, I hated the damn things. The offset was horrible, I just couldn't swing well with them. Ping grips are fantastic though.

I'm currently using Wilson Staff Ci11's, after having tried numerous different sets of clubs, and they are, for me, perfection. Don't worry if it is GI, or SGI, instead find what feels right, and play those.

Horrible advice. I hate when people push a brand or model. Play what fits you. I hated the G20's as much as I hated the G10's. Does that mean they are bad clubs? No, it means they weren't right for me. Never take advice on club brands over the net. Again, buy what feels right.

BUT.... if you are brand new and you suck, your money would probably be better spent on QUALITY lesson so you suck less, then you can look at blowing your wad on a new set of clubs.

New clubs won't make you suck less, you'll just look better at sucking!

Just starting - Okay, go less expensive but good quality - find a used set of Ping G5's and take a look. Or if you want really SGI, a used set of Ping Raptures. Go to ebay, make sure the serial numbers are good (you can call Ping) and see if the length and lie (color code) would fit. I don't like the sand or lob wedge of SGI sets, so I'd opt out of those.

The one thing I would suggest when purchasing irons is not to buy off the internet based on reviews or other peoples opinions.  Check out your local pro shops and the bigger retailers and try out a few sets within your price range.  You may find something that is totally off your radar and even save a few bucks.  It really comes down to how good you feel swinging it and if it suits your eye on address.

I started learning golf with Big Bertha super game improvement irons, and then went to Diablo Edge super game improvement irons. I have now moved to Razr X game improvement irons. To be honest, I think the Razr X are more forgiving than the other two. I should have bought them from the start.

My advice is to just go straight to game improvement irons. forget SGI.

Lot of great advise here but go one step further, go to a Rodger Dunn or a big retail, that has a good new and used section, try them all either pay that price or go to the internet to buy them for cheep, no tax and most likly no shipping.

But do not councel out any brand at this point, there are a lot of clubs that cross over to SGI/GI or GI/Players.

What brand you get does not matter just get the ones that feel the best to you. Then take some lessions!!!

i did not follow this with my son, got him X-20 set there are great but he did not try them, I used to play them and where great for me. He struggles some with the uniflex even thou he is a good size kid but his swing is slow should have got him regular flex there is a differance. I made a mistake now we will be getting him fitted soon and will let him try every club made new and old he is at that point now.

Of course this is just what i would do.
