Had my first lesson yesterday at a smaller course, mainly par threes and a few par fours.  He started me off on chipping, spent a lot of time on that.  Took me over to one of the par threes and had me tee off from the red which was about 100 yards.  Handed me my pitching wedge and said "let's see what you've got, let me know when you are ready" (he was taking video of my swing).  The pin was placed towards the upper end of the sloping green and I threw it up high, landed no more than a few feet away from the pin and rolled towards it and then downwards.  Instructor could not believe it, thought I was going to make a hole in one.  I knew I did some things wrong in the stroke and watching the video definitely opened my eyes.  My head moves too much, I move my legs too much for a wedge shot and I sway slightly.  At release my arms and hands are bunched up.  All of that going against me and still almost made it.

Listen. What ever advice is being given isn't a quick fix. I've done drills where I hit shanks. In the end you are trying to change your swing for the long term sacrificing good contact in the short term. Mostly when you are doing a drill. When I mean drill I mean something you do for an extended period of time to change your swing for the better.

Right now you are going to struggle with consistent contact because your overswing and your head moves way too much. How about this, post a video of you doing working on keeping your head steady and maintaining that spine tilt? Just don't whack balls. concentrate on what you need to do to with your body to not lift your head up in the backswing.   In the end you just might need in person instruction.

Best one yet, seeing myself on video striking a ball helped tremendously, as did the instruction I received yesterday.

Good chance it's because you hit the sweetspot more often than I do. My guess is it has to do with vibration that gets transferred up the shaft from the head. Thinking about it now, I've lost three tags, all off my vintage blades. I have the same grips (from the same order) on my wedges and have never even had to re-tighten them.
