The Peel?

That's a heavy price to pay... but I've done it before with another product that sits in my garage.  :-(

Did the Gold Flex infringe on your patent?

BTW, I have a friend who has the Orange Whip and swears by it. Pulls it out of his trunk and swings it before every round. Likes it better than hitting warm up balls.

I have had an orange whip for about a year, and I really like it. I use it mostly as a warm up tool, but I also find it useful for when I start getting a little quick. It stays in my golf bag since it does not count as a 15th club, although it is against the rules to use it during a round. I definitely would give it a thumbs up.

The gold flex does not infringe on our patent solely for the reason that it is missing a key component of the system: the counterweight. The counterweight gives the user more feedback about casting, flipping at the bottom, encouraging a full finish and staying on plane. Also, we feel as though the Orange Whip is much more durable and well made, as each one is handmade in South Carolina from domestic parts.

I am also reviewing the Orange Whip.  My initial impression is positive.  If have been following the three drills to the letter. It does seem to promote a smooth swing.  I have intentionally tried things to cause it to go off balance like lead too much with the legs or arms, and it really gives feedback.  I also find that it works the core muscles a lot.  You really feel fatigue in your core after finishing the third drill.  I have been doing 3 repetitions of the third drill.

Do you have data on increasing flexibility, as in how long to notice improvement?  This is one area I need to improve on, especially at the finish of my swing.  I tend to finish a bit short as my right side is not as flexible.

Boogielicious,

I'm glad to hear you are doing the Foundation Drills on a regular basis, and three sets a day is a great way to improve your flexibility.   The drills were designed to be done in a repetitive motion so the user can develop rhythm and balance in their golf swing.   Because of the unique design of the Orange Whip, with such a flexible shaft and a balanced weighting system on each end of the device, the 'workouts' are low impact and will gradually increase your flexibility and core strength.

In regards to scientific data and how long should the user do the drills to notice improvement, we are consulting with a few golf fitness specialists to gather the information and hopefully provide detailed information by the Spring of 2013.   For many years we have received strong support from those in the golf community with a focus on fitness and flexibility, now we want to organize this support into usable information.

I am PGA Golf Professional and the developer of the Orange Whip, but not a Physio-Fitness expert,so please take my viewpoint as my opinion.    My belief is that you should start noticing improvements to your flexibility within one week, but I recommend doing the drills on a regular basis (both right and left handed) to develop increased strength and range of motion.

I hope this was helpful.

Let it Whip!

I am considering the Orange Whip.  I question whether the 47" or the 44" would be better for me.  I think the 44" model would allow me to swing inside the house which is a plus, but I would not want to lessen the benefit of the 47" model by going to the 44".  I can always go outside.

Will the 44" model give the same benefit of the 47? If not, why not?

The "44 inch model (the Golden) will offer the same benefits as the Trainer. Some shorter individuals struggled with the 47" inch version (the Trainer) so we developed shorter versions. The best way to sum up the differences between the two is that if you wanted to get the same workout with the Golden as you did with the Trainer, you would have to swing the Golden back and forth in motion 22 times as compared with the Trainer's 20.

Just a bit more manageable for shorter individuals and lower ceilings.

My question is regards to developing bad habits.  Since we are repeating the same motion over and over do you think this could assist in forming bad habits?

For example, if I have flaws in my swing that I continue to repeat 3x sets on a daily basis, how will this effect my swing via muscle memory?  The last thing I would want to do is further ingrain errors/flaws by continually repeating them over and over with the trainer.

The Whip is a training AID - not a trainer, meaning you should get the basis of your swing from another source.

And because I have a decent outline and have researched where I want to go with my swing, the Whip helped me fix a bad habit.

On a sad note, let me break the news. There is no muscle memory - it is your brain remembering what to do.

But there is a Santa Claus in each of us. Maybe your personal Santa will set you up with an Orange Whip.

You answered a question, but not my question.  I know the whip is a training aid and not a trainer.  But if you continually do a motion over and over the wrong way it will start to feel right to your brain.  So brain memory/muscle memory (a moot point really), if you continue to use the whip without being cautious of your swing you can further ingrain bad habits you may have.  So my post, while in question form, was mostly to make sure people use the training aid wisely.  And this is all based on if, as you say, they have not received correct training from another source.   Thankfully Santa aka Dan/Jim provided me their fine product to review.

Note: I will be moving any further posts to the one Mike has designated for questions.  I didn't see it earlier or I would not have posted my question here.  Welcome to the forums  Dan and Jim!

Well, then, test it, review it, and see what you think.

But any training aid can be misused.  (And  if you've got to use another post to explain your initial post...)

Good luck with the review.

I will enjoy the review.  I wanted the thoughts of Dan/Jim on the matter so I will be reading the other thread.  Thanks for your enlightening information.

This sounds wonderful.   I'm really considering purchasing this training aide.  I don't want to start any trouble but from the Orange Whip Trainer website http://www.orangewhiptrainer.com/index.php , the price is $179.   I see with the promo code SANDTRAP there is a discount of $10 off.   From that website, it linked to Carl's Golfland and they are selling it from their website for $109.99. http://www.carlsgolfland.com/shop/orange-whip-golf-swing-trainer.html

Why the huge difference?

I think I'm heading there this weekend!

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
