Don't worry about seeing that driver on ebay anytime soon.  We went back up their with my uncle and we insisted a little harder at them to take it back, not threating at all, but my uncle is nobody to be messed with and I am sure they "got it".  They said they would take it back and they only charged him a $10 restocking fee (they said it was normally like $20).  I actually kinda liked it, does anyone know where I could pick a 13 C- or a C?

A restocking fee for a golf club at a tire store?  Okay....

Thank goodness you didn't keep the FREE driver and it only cost you $10 to give it back to them. Maybe if your uncle gave them $100, he could give them back the tires, too. Seeing as how he is nobody to be messed with and all.

I just want to make sure I have everything right here:

1. Your cousin (or whatever) buys tires.

2. The tire shop gives him a free driver for the purchase.

3. He looses a yard or two with the new driver and is pissed and wants to take it back but they wont take it.

4. You go back again to return it with your uncle, and after insisting a bit they do, but for a $10 restocking fee (which would normally be $20)

Just a question, why wouldn't you just throw the damn thing away or donate it or something if you didn't like it... you obviously didn't pay for it so you aren't out any cash. And on top of that, why would you pay to return it?

Because that's what all "Geep" owners would do.  Better be careful of what you post on this thread.  His uncle may pay you $50 so you take back what you wrote...

What I find the funniest is the perception of what this person (I think he was Chinese) thinks we would relate to.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

Satire at its best. My hat's off to you Gilberg. You are either a comedic genius or a moron, but either way I thank you for this thread. You don't happen to keep choots in your back yard do you?

Sounds like a SNL skit...

"I want to return this free golf club"

"But sir, it was free."

"I don't care, I don't want my money back"

"Then why are you returning it?"

"Cause I lost 1 yard of distance with it. It sucks."

"Um, why don't you just give it away?"

"Cause I want you to take it."

"But you're not getting any money back."

"I don't care."

And on and on ad absurditum....

My favorite part is when the Bad Ass uncle paid them $10 to take back the free driver. Priceless!

I'm leaning towards the comedic genius theory. There is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE this Gilberg guy is serious. He is clearly a troll here on the forums, but a very funny one. Most of his posts are hilarious stories. Funniest part is after they went through this entire ordeal to pay to return the free driver, Gilberg decides he liked it, and is wondering where to get one. The story is funny and kinda creative. I like it.

I'm just wondering if the uncle is a real uncle, or assuming he's the "cousins" dad, and thus maybe he's not "legally" his uncle.  Everything else made perfect sense.

Good point...

I'm with the others now about this being a completely fake story that somebody just put up for fun... There is no way this can be real... right?

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
