Temecula could be a lot of fun. Palm Srpings/Desert could be good too. Would love to join in if you all dont mind a hacker in your midst.

All are welcome!  We would like to encourage as many as possible to join and play.  You will have a blast!

(Besides, it's April ... you have plenty of time to practice!)

Paying retail? C'mon. :) Think... ;)

Yeah sounds good.  I'll start working on that in '13

Def some good ideas there.  Especially if since it would be easy to tie that into the course review.

Good idea.

Well, Tristan recommends the beginning of April as the time to go because rates are going down and it hasn't gotten too hot yet.

Easter is March 31st.

I would say that puts the weekends of April 6-7 and April 13-14 as the possible frontrunners???

a.) The 6th / 7th works.

b.) 13th / 14th is possible as well.

20th / 21st & 27th / 28th - these two sets of weekends are bad for me in April, and I'd not be able to play as I have other functions that are planned.

I forgot to mention Passover (my wife's gonna kill me) but rest assured that is in March also so it won't get in the way.

I have no plans in April as far as I know, so I'm also fine with the weekends of the 6/7 and 13/14.

Sounds good to me ... lets work on this weekend unless/until we hear from Tristan that it won't work (or enough others can't do it)

Good call!  To make it worth their while, we might have to play two rounds of golf.  Ever since Beach mentioned a TST Ryder Cup I've been thinking it would be really cool to do it that way.  Split in to two teams, then pair everybody up and play foursomes matches the first round, and singles matches the second round.

Yes, I know I'm getting ahead of myself there, let's just stick to getting the dates down for now.

6th or 7th is fine here... The next two weekends I can't as it's the Coachella Fest and work is crazy busy.

Mike... do you still want me to take care of this or did you want to call around?

Ok, bad news (for me). My sons birthday is April 2nd and since the previous weekend is Easter, we will be doing his party the weekend of the 6th/7th. Depending on what day/ time you guys end up at, maybe I can drive out there for one round of golf. But it definitely sounds like no full Palm Springs weekend is in the cards for me. :(

No big deal. Obviously the kids birthday comes first. If you can make it, great, if not, don't sweat it, especially since we plan to do one of these every few months or so.

I think we may have another possible course... I played the other day as a single at Desert Willow and got paired with a group from a local church who is having a tournament at the Classic Club in March and they told me the price for it was $60 or $70 (they couldn't remember for sure).

Anyways, I think that if we could get the Classic Club for that price, that'd be the way to go. It's an AMAZING course. In fact, it was built for the Bob Hope (now Humana Challenge), although it has been moved now.

Here is their site for those interested in checking it out:

Let me know what you guys think.

Looks gorgeous. If we could get those prices, I'm afraid I'd HAVE to play.

Would love to be a part of future outings, if possible.  The April meetup may be problematic, my wife is due April 10 with our 2nd.  I would love to be a part of future get togethers though.  I wish I'd known about this group before, Mile Square Park is less than 10 minutes from my front door.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
