That's great Tristan, can't wait to see some pics!  I remember that they changed the format last year from 90 holes to 72 holes, but I didn't remember the change regarding the amateurs.  I believe the old format had only one pro in each group with a team of 3 or 4 ams.  Now it appears to be pairs, just like at Pebble.  I'm sure they changed that last year too, I just didn't remember.

One thing I've always thought about this tournament, is how memorable the stretch of holes from 12 or 13 through 17, along the base of the mountains, on the Palmer Course are (the one they play on Sunday) ... and I don't mean that in a good way.  Maybe I'm just being picky here, but that ditch just bugs me.  They need to plaster some fake rocks or something on the banks, or whatever they can do to make it look somewhat natural.  Takes away from the beauty of the rest of the course.

I'm going to pick Zach Johnson this year.  No particular reason why (except I liked him in "Walk The Line" and he was close last year).  As long as he remembers ... all putts break towards Indio!

Looks like I may not be able to get tickets after all so I don't think I'll be going... oh well. Should be a good tournament though... I'll still probably watch a good portion of it on TV but I dread hearing the putts break to Indio line... it's just so freakin' annoying.

I think I'll pick Gary Woodland to win it... he played there well 2 years ago (lost in a playoff to Vegas) and I like the guy. Plus he came into my work the other day.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about it too.  Not that Kapalua and Sony aren't real tournaments, but something about them makes them feel very vacation-like.  It just "feels" like the season is really getting underway once they come back to the mainland.  Mickelsons there this week, Tiger will be at Torrey, and so on.

Although, I'm pretty dang fired up about Tiger and Rory in Abu Dhabi as well ... which, I believe, starts live in, like, 2 hours!!!

I'll definitely follow the leaderboard like I always do, but I'll probably watch a little bit of this one on TV as well.  I usually start watching a lot more when the Tour stops at Torrey Pines and Scottsdale, but the season really starts for me at the WGC-Match Play Championship.  From then on, things get good!

As far as picks go, Bo Van Pelt and Brandt Snedeker are two guys who stick out for me.  They can make a lot of birdies in bunches, and that's what it will take this week.  I'm interested to see how Phil plays though.

Yeah I'm ready to watch some of the Abu Dhabi tonight when I get home. Should be a good show and I want to see how Rory adapts to the Nike clubs.

As far as the Humana tourney this weekend, I'll probably watch some on Sat and Sun. I think Kuchar will have a good showing as he looked pretty dialed in over the weekend.

Bo's gettin' some love this week... that's two picks for the guy already.

This tournament is still wide open, and it's going to be a shootout over the weekend.  The most intriguing thing to watch may be how Russell Henley performs the next two days.  He is back in contention, and he will really turn some heads if he can win again.  There are plenty of golfers with a chance though, but I'm excited to see how things turn out.

Very impressive stuff from Scott Stallings today. He can join a pretty short list of guys who have won PGA Tour events 3 years in a row (obviously he'd be the first to do it in 11, 12 and 13), but not many did it from 10-12. Hopefully he can finish the deal, hate to see a guy lose a lead like he has! Got to keep the pedal to the metal though.

I think Dustin Johnson's won in every year since 2008 (including 2013).

Yeah ... the only one other than Tiger to win in his first six seasons on tour.

I'm sure I'll jinx him, but it's great seeing Charles Howell III in contention for a second consecutive weekend. I'm glad he went back to the short putter, and he has looked solid so far. Stallings falters at all, it's a wide open event. It's definitely his to lose though. I usually don't watch much of this event, but I'll be glued to the TV tomorrow! :-) It will be a great way to pass time til the Ravens game.

I remember playing my home course in Augusta (Jones Creek) where Charles, as a teenager, would play. He'd zoom around in a cart around our foursome, skipping holes, while practicing.  Definitely underachieving as a PGA pro - thought he'd have more wins.

It's definitely one of the easier stops on tour, but I think it's kind of fun to watch these guys go out and pick apart a course.

Totally agree. If they did this every week it'd get dull, but so would us open conditions every week too. Variation is good!
