My other thought was to get a rangefinder and GPS watch. I like to take notes of different points on the course, but I also like the use of the watch so I can mark my distances of the shot, so I can make notes of club distances. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was in the same dilema earlier until I stumbled on a good review of gps and rangefinders. You can find the article at onthegreen.weebly.com/gps-and-rangefinders.html. I agree with the post about skycaddie. There are other brands out there such as golfbuddy and sonocaddie. I chose sonocaddie because the download is free for life and you can recalibrate your unit at any time. For instance, I used it at Olivas Links in Ventura and found that they had switched the holes around. The calibration told me I had over 800 yards to the green and as I was approaching the green, the yardage was getting bigger. I recalibrated the course and uploaded to sonocaddie's site. This is something I don't think skycaddie or other sites have.
