As long as I use a little extra flare on the front foot not any more stress than usual but balance in the finish slightly harder than usual.

(But that was always already a problem anyway).

Instead of having to worry about balance in a vertical position after impact (which was fairly hard) I now have to worry about balance with my spine angle tilted after impact (which is even harder).

Quite a bit harder to do but maybe worth the effort to try it. At least the ball is gone before that comes into play.

Would be embarrassing to fall on my face after the shot though! Ha ha.

Making a change is harder because of that than it would be for most people. Making a good golf swing is hard enough as it is without subconsciously trying to protect something I've been trying to protect (and successfully) for 43 years.

Early attempt at using training aid.

Some progress but barbed wire would teach me faster than a foam pad.

I'm so used to my release being directly below my head that I am going to have to work on delaying it since my head is now further back at impact. If the ball was back a couple of inches it might help with that.

I forgot to reset the camera so the camera angle is not good and doesn't give me (or anyone else) a good view of actual ball position.

Make sure you adjust your training aid to allow you to extend and complete your follow-through.  You could easily wreck your lower back if you keep swinging like you did in your last video.

Only other thing that might help with your swing that I see, if your left leg injury permits, is try to feel like you keep your left shoulder down and moving forward a little longer on your downswing.  This might stop your early extension problems.

You are probably right about the lower back. I could feel that it was more tired after 36 holes Saturday than it ever has playing golf before. If there was anything good about my old swing it was that there was no stress at all on my back. Almost all of the power and speed was generated by the pulling down motion of the left arm (and power was never a problem). Consistency was always the problem. As long as I was playing every day it worked fine but didn't hold up very well if I wasn't playing as often.

I need to get some on course video after trying the training aid to see if it looks anything similar. I hit the ball very well yesterday so I'm assuming it's not too bad, but as you know what we feel like we are doing and what we are actually doing are two different things.

P.S. I've never had a very good follow through. It just sort of goes where it goes and there's not a lot I can do about that (long story). If you ever see me in a Payne Stewart follow through position it will mean I had to call an ambulance. Ha ha ha ha!

An on course 5 wood swing from last year. I will get a new one to see if anything I'm working on will make a difference.

Still working on the drill Stretch suggested. I think when I find the right eye line and set up weight distribution it will be an improvement. I'm sure it will take a while for anything to feel natural.

Same old story for me. Hitting the ball better than my swing looks. Not a lot of progress but maybe just a little if I look hard enough. Trying to get my hands and the club shaft in a better position at impact (without a whole lot of luck) feels AND LOOKS like the club path is out to in, but the ball on the course Saturday was not a fade. So???? Maybe I was swinging different on the course.

Got a video during my round yesterday. Wanted to see if anything I've been working on would show up when I was only thinking about hitting a shot and not my swing.

Unfortunately it looks like the same old swing. Fortunately I hit the ball very well with it anyway.

With the weather getting better maybe some more practice time will start showing up on the course.

Trying to get the lag of the shaft to cover my right forearm (at least) at some point on the way down. Still not there but a heck of a lot closer than it was.

I let a couple of other things I had been working on slip a little in the effort but that didn't surprise me much.

Perhaps some more shoulder turn (not sure if the injury has anything to do with restriction on your back) will keep your hands from getting too far behind and help kee the club on plane longer.

Driver: 10.5* callaway Razr Hawk Tour - 350 yards(usually into the wind, it can be windy here. at least 400 with a little wind behind me)

Hybrids: 2 and 3 callaway Hybrid razr tour (312 and 287 respectively)

Irons: 3i-10i callaway forged standard length(278, 263, 250, 235, 221, 213, 201, 190)

Wedges: callaway jaws cc 52* 12 approach, 56* 16 sand, 60* 13 lob (0-185)

Odyssey Black tour #9 putter(5 ft, i'm always at least within 5 feet on my approach shot)

I wonder who on this forum is a PGA tour pro, disguised as a normal player..

Thanks. My back is fine. I might try a little more turn to see if it helps with what I'm trying to do.

A swing before my Saturday game. Still can't get my left arm exactly where I want it at the top. Butt still coming off of the wall. Spine still raising up before impact. Shaft still not covering my right forearm on the way down. (Wow! Lots of bad news.)

Lets see...Good news...Hmmm. Well at least I hit the ball long and straight when I hit one down across the hayfield.

This is my first attempt at a swing after trying Michael Mc Loughlin's drill. It's not ready for prime time (or the course), and it doesn't look like when he does it, but I did hit the ball well with it.

I was hitting off of a rubber mat because the last thing I wanted to do trying something new was to ruin my confidence in it by hitting out of 3 inch yard grass. I hit 100 balls with my target being a cedar tree 110 yards away. Was on target most of the time but toward the end I started pulling a few.

It did acomplish one thing I haven't been able to do with a short iron, and that was for the shaft to cover my right forearm during the downswing.

One of today's attempts. Nothing I tried turned out as good once I watched the videos as it felt hitting the ball. Hit a few balls down across the hay field to make sure they were flying right and they were all good. I feel like a few things are closer but in baby steps.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf. 
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
