I love golfing, but i would find it very hard to make it through a round without a smoke. believe me i would love to quit but haven't been able to do it yet. So i enjoy having a couple of cigs while i play a round.

Would you still play as much if you were not allowed to smoke or chew on the course, or at the club house?

I miss 'would play more' in the poll. I don't like it when others in my flight smoke, but it's not a reason to play less. I would not go to a course where it is allowed to smoke at de DR.

I do not see this as a choice I will ever have to make - yes I could live without a cigar, but i do not have to

Accidently self imposed this on myself this week at my league.  I fotgot my chew at home so I told my playing partner it wasnt his fault if I ripped off his head.  I ended up more focused on drinking more beer and shot 4 strokes better than the week before.  No one got hurt and no clubs were thrown or broken. lol

It wouldnt bother me in the slightest.  I dont smoke and dont chew, so it wouldnt effect me.  Im actually fine with people smoking on the course because its outside.  Now, I dont want people smoking in the clubhouse because I dont feel that my lungs should be ruined because of someone else's filthy habit (if you want to trash your lungs, thats your choice but you have no right to subject me to the same harm that you choose to subject yourself to) but Im OK with it outside.

I might be even more likely to play. I would certainly welcome that.

I've not smoked cigarettes in quite a few years, never chewed, and though I rather like smoking a cigar the vile aftertaste sticks with me for several days it seems and so I just say no to stogies.  However, I would really hate to see some sort of rule imposed upon people who choose to have a smoke out on the course.  There are, IMO, already far too many rules being thrust on us 'for our own good' by people that think they are smarter than we must be.  If they ban smoking, they'll be back next year after your beer folks!

I would absolutely still golf just as much and I wouldn't even be that upset about it. I am at about 1 pack a day when I'm really having a bad day or drinking/cooking out - but typically half pack to 3/4 a day on the regular.

Personally, I can go 1 week without smoking when I'm sick or even 10 hours without a smoke while I'm working if I don't have the time to go have one. Playing a round of golf without a smoke wouldn't be a cause for me to quit golfing (choosing my unhealthy habit over a healthy and satisfying hobby).

I've been seeing more and more cigarette butts on the course this year. I was just asking my buddies if they thought course might ban cigarette smoking because of the trash created. I am not sure if the problem is getting worse or if I am getting less tolerant of other people leaving their trash on the course. I do not know anyone who would just toss a gum wrapper on the course yet people toss their butts as if that is somehow not garbage. These same players might fix pitch marks, replace divots and carefully rack traps. Yet they think a cigarette butt is not trash because it will biodegrade in 10-15 years.

Ban cigarettes until smokers can clean up their act.

As for any smoker in my group, I try never to ride with one in my cart. It seems rare that there is more than one in a 4-some even in my extended groups. Perhaps they are just refraining because I don't smoke.

I don't use tobacco.  Just wanted to chime in to say that I don't mind smokers on a course, but I really dislike to see chew.

Either way, though, just make sure none of that stuff (chew spit or cigarette butts) get on the course.

The good ol' NRA-style argument.  Feed the paranoia, appeal to the dimwitted alarmists.

Funny, neither the original drunk driving laws, nor the subsequent tightening of those laws to prohibit a .08% BAC seem to have resulted in anyone ripping a pint of good Cascade hop-infused APA out of my hands and I have a broader choice of fine beers in both liquor stores and grocery stores today than I had a decade ago.  And another funny thing - no one has come to my house with a tow-truck, demanded my keys and started hauling away my cars, nor have I heard of that happening to anyone except people who got too far behind in their payments.

There's one kind of smoker to whom I will always say something:  the moron who is so completely thoughtless that he hops out of his car/truck with a lit cigarette in hand and reaches for the gas pump.  I typically say "This isn't the smartest place to be smoking, is it?"  A couple of times, I've had an astonished look register on someone's face who simply was being absent-minded and gotten a "Gosh, you're right - sorry about that" sort of response.  Usually it gets just dirty looks, but once in a while I'll get a F*&(*& you! and once I got "How the hell is that any of your business?"  I responded "Not having an exploding gas pump 25 feet away from me is very much my business."

Ban all tees until those filthy tee users can clean up their act and properly dispose of their non-biodegradable coated wooden or plastic spikes. They are all over the tee box. I love how judgemental many can be about smoking. It's easy.. If you don't like it that your club allows it on the course or in the clubhouse find another club. I take offense to many people at my club wearing black golf shoes with shorts or white plaid shorts in general... It is physically harmful to me and my mental state.. But I like the club so Ideal with it. If a guy smokes in my foursome and the course is fine with it... What am I going to do. Apparently the appropriate response is to go denigrate those people on a message board.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
