For me, only on chip shots and putts.  Never with any other club.  Never.

If I make a great practice swing, what's the chances of me doing it 2 times in a row?  I'm also getting to the age where I'm conserving energy throughout the round.  Especially when it's hot.

The most difficult distance in golf is the six inches between your ears.

This is exactly my problem too. Range I can put them the direction I want and the distance I want. Get to the course and they seem magnetised to either the bunkers, the OB sticks or worse, two fairways left or right of the one I'm aiming for. That's when the stress and annoyance set it and it's a slippery slope from there. I'm still yet to find the ability to compose myself and improve on the rest of my round.

The mental part is tough, it'll definitely be the toughest part for me.  I'm sure my mechanics aren't close to perfect yet but they are ahead of my mental game!

Yesterday I was tee'ing off on a par 3 with a water hazard between tee box and green.  I rushed my shot and in the drink it went.  My immediate reaction was anger and frustration but somehow I just told myself to relax, took the penalty re-teed and landed it 5 feet from the hole for a single putt.  Doing that on the first try would have been much better but it was good to see that I could do it and just not to rush things. Hopefully the more I play the easier it will be to not come unraveled after a bad shot.  Swing consistency will help too, maybe 20 rounds from now it wont be nearly as much of an issue
