I would like to experiment with a 6 degree driver.

I am having trouble locating one.

Can anyone direct me to a place that has  6 degree drivers?

New / Used / Head Only / Head with Shaft / Any Shaft /  Bid or Buy it Now / Sell, Trade, or Barter / (in short, anything that is designed to hit a golf ball and is 6 degrees --  anything!)

Thanks in advance

Steve

Nope, Spyder, not me.  Although I wish it was. This kid looks awfully young.  I'm 66 yrs old.

(or did I miss the joke?)

And you, Slice of Life,  have made me realize I'm not as desperate as I thought . . . .

Glad I could help.

By the way: http://www.krankgolf.com/formula-5/

Loft can be set to as low as 5 degrees.

Bang, Geek, and SMT all make 6* and lower loft driver heads.  All 3 are high quality, they're not cheap, but they're not too high priced either.

Steve,

You play off of 10 and have been playing long enough to know your game, so I won't go into the reasons that a 6* driver is impractical for most people, but I'm curious.  Why are you looking at one?  What are you expecting to accomplish with it?

Again, not going to poke......just genuinely interested.  Thanks, and welcome to the forum!

Another question (please note, I am not poking at the game, because a 10 is well capable of knowing what he is looking for)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression, that depending on the swing certain shafts can create positive AoA.  So it is possible that while a 8.5 or 9.5 (available from major OEMs) with a shaft that doesn't impart any positive AoA.

However, if you are looking to reduce spin, potentially look at a lower spinning club head (the ping Anser for example) again available in ALL sorts of lofts.

Just curious

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Lowest I ever saw or played was a 7* back in the late 80's, early 90's. I LOVED it.... It was a great "Florida" club, lots of rollout (I tend to hit it WAY high). The 7 kept the flight a bit lower and was especially helpful in the wind. It was also great for hardpan lies under trees and such, for which I now use my FTiZ 13*. good luck in your search!

Wow, I apologize then as I took your initial post as a troller trollin'!

Please do not take offense to this, but at your age... should you really be interested in a 6 degree driver? Most of the gentlemen that I know that are over 60 years old typically use fairway woods off of the tee, or an 11 degree driver. They also have ball retrievers that are used more than their low irons and they prefer chippers from 50 yards and in. Not to be stereotypical or anything, but I really don't think a 6 would fit..

Thank you, David in FL, I appreciate your tact in approaching the subject of why I am looking for the 6*.

But no need to be quite so delicate.

The problem is, I simply hit the ball too high.

I am now using a TaylorMade r7   8.5 degree with  high kick-point stiff shaft.

My balls generally tend to launch in an arc that is greater than 45 degrees. Sometimes as much as 50* (this is an estimation based on flight characteristics.)

I have tried to adjust my swing to keep the ball down (especially in a headwind) but lose quite a bit of control when I do that.

My natural swing, which is quite comfortable, launches high.

I have tried several brands of clubs with the adjustable shaft (FCT) that lets you pick your degree of loft.

An 8 1/2 degree can be adjusted down to 7 degrees on some.

That still doesn't help. And besides, I don't like the way adjusting loft affects the fade / draw characteristics.

No offence taken, Spyder!

Now it is true that the stereotypical 66-yr-old may walk bent over a bit, and be generally weak and unsteady, but some of us have kept in pretty good shape. I use my free membership to the 24-Hour Fitness gym (senior citizens in AARP get in free) and have stayed in excellent shape. I am considered a pretty long hitter. My good, clean drives consistently exceed 250 yards (yes, in spite of all that height). I'm keeping up very well with all the young whipper-snappers around here.

This is not said for the purpose of inflating my ego (nor is it an exaggeration), I just want to give you all a more clear picture of where I'm coming from so that the idea of a six degree driver doesn't get dismissed out of hand in your minds.

(I am, however, expecting some insightful alternative suggestions from David.  :-)

Thanks for the link, LBlack14. I'm considering it.

Steve

Jamie Sadlowski hit his putter almost 290 yards.

Got it. Have you considered trying to find a shaft that better fits your swing and flight tendency? Seems like it's more of a shaft issue, than a loft issue.... .....at 66 I'm guessing that you may have a bit of a flippy release to keep your swing speed up. That's going to tend to increase your launch angle. I think you can find a shaft with an even higher kick point to keep the flight down. Just my first thought. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
    • I agree with @klineka, you're clearly doing something right.  Its always going to be a bit of a guessing game if you don't have any scoring history.  On the other hand, understanding that it takes only 54 holes to establish an actual handicap, and they have about 6 weeks in which to play and post enough scores, I don't think its at all unreasonable to require them to have an official handicap before they become eligible for prizes.  I don't know how you structure the fees for the series of competitions, but if its possible they'll play with the group without being eligible for prizes, you could consider a way to let them do that without contributing to the prize pool.
    • I run tournaments and want to put in a local rule that allows relief from tree roots and rocks that are not loose impediments. We have some really terrible lies in some of our courses in my area and nobody is getting paid enough to break clubs. Let me know if you think the verbage for this rule makes sense. Local Rule Roots and Rocks You may move your ball from a tree root or buried rock one club length for free relief no closer to the hole. However you may not use this rule to get relief from a tree, bush, boulder, or other foliage hindering your swing. Your only option here is to play it as it lies or take an unplayable for a one stroke penalty.
    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
