LOL.  Is that b/c they used the clubs they have not practiced much?   Next time, make sure he only take 2 clubs to a match.

You only need a 5 iron and a putter - right?   (actually I did that once, and did not fare too badly)

I am illegal in that I carry 15 and usually find occasion to use most during a round. (sometimes unnecessarily). I took out my 3 and 4 iron and replaced with 4H and 21 Degree Olimar. I also carry a one iron or 4 Persimmon. If I were to carry only 14, I suppose I would lose one of the wedges. Probably the E wedge.

Carry 14 but maybe I should re-think that. When I used to play junior Opens in the Summers near where I grew up, they often held informal 3-club, 9-hole comps for those who were back soon enough to get the 9-holes in before the end of the event and prize giving.

Seem to remember routinely bettering my morning gross (which had been achieved with a full bag) with only a 4-, 8-iron and putter in the afternoon.

Thinking about it, I should go back to practicing on the course with only a few clubs as it always gave me a much better feel for playing imaginative shots. Pretty good fun hitting all sorts of compromise shots when your weaponry is limited.

I also carry 14 clubs but based on these posts, I am going to carry less clubs to practice specific clubs.  Starting today, I will remove my driver, 3 wood and go strictly with irons + 1 hybrid.    Long irons & hybrid have been stopping me from lowering my handicap and I will force myself to use them more in field.

no particular reason other than to not just leave a club laying around or maybe a situation comes up when I just want to use a particular club. If I were in competition or tournament play, it goes without saying I would be abiding by the rules and carry 14 or less. So, I guess I could simply say:  "why not?"  ( rules aside of course).

Oh, and I have also removed the "do not remove" tag from bed linens.

I would go 5 clubs in my smallest carry bag.  Hybrid,7i,9i,sw,putter. No par 3 courses in my area so never get to do it, but im only using 6 clubs in total on full length courses and it seems to me i'm just a tad more consistent with half a set of clubs, just the ones I hit best and I have went from shooting 45 for 9 to more like 42 so less clubs has meant 3 less strokes per 9 holes.  My handicap dosen't always reflect it because my home course has a low rating because it's short but it is par 72. I played a very long course early this year with only a half set and played better than normal so it can help certain players.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
