So I have a tendency to use different golf balls all the time.  Not necessarily in the same round, but I'll buy a dozen of these, a dozen of those etc. A friend that I golf with often finds this strange and always voices his opinion about it when we golf.  I buy more Callaways than other brands, but last weekend I played with some Bridgestone E6 balls (love em!) and of course he noticed.  Do many of you do this or am I in the minority?

In my bag:

Fairway Wood - Diablo Octane 15*
Hybrid -  Edge 21*
Irons - X20's 4I - 9I
Wedges - X20's PW/SW
Putter - White Ice 1
Ball - Warbird

I do similar. I am not good enough to tell to much difference (unless the ball is really bad).

When I started to take golf serious, I started using one ball only.  When I find ProV1 I throw them in a certain spot in my bag and those are the balls I use when I am trying something stupid in a practice round or a scramble.  Like trying to carry 250-275 yards of water with driver or play a big hook or slice over OB or something to that nature.  Otherwise I want the same feel.  When I played random balls I could tell a slight difference with full swings and then with my short shots the spin.

When I stopped using multiple balls from the refurbished bags, I got more consistent; it took one variable out of the equation and I can concentrate on other factors without wondering about the ball. Right now I have been playing the Bridgestone E6 for some time and like them a lot.

I buy a little of everything right now. I want to find a go to ball, but I can't tell that big a difference, and playing whatever I can find/ is on sale is a lot cheaper.

I used to be like that, especially when I played ProV1's. I would routinely play cheaper golf balls when it was hard to find good deals on the ProV's. Now that I've switched to E7's I play only those. They are great balls and so much better then ProV1's in my opinion. They have an ideal ball flight, decent green side spin and a firmer feel much like the ProV1x had.

I experiment with balls all the time, I got some super deals on TaylorMade Penta/TP5 and bought several dozen, but I try different balls in the search to find the perfect one (and at the perfect price!) that fits my game.  I picked up some Bridgestone RX and RXS just recently, have a couple sleeves of TP3 still in my bag.  I can't say I've found "the ball" yet, but I do enjoy the search!

I just used a sleeve of the Callaway Diablos. I don't know if it was me or the ball of both, but I actually got on a par five in two that was over 450 yards! I did have the wind behind me but those balls seem to take off!

Nothing wrong with giving a whole different bunch of balls a shot. As you get better, you might want to keep to a similar TYPE of ball among different balls. This will give a reasonably consistent result. Then you can decide on the right ball for you as you improve even more. Don't swing between $10 a dozen rocks and ProV's and then to a TM Rocketballs type. Choose different brands of a decent midrange all around ball for now.

I get two or three sample balls here or there, and put them into my little "whatever" bin. I try to save up a half dozen of each so I can test out on the chipping and pitching, and then try for a round. On pure distance balls, I often have trouble getting them to stop on chips or partial wedges.

If I'm playing a par 3 course or a shorter nine-hole with decent greens, that's when I reach into the "whatever" bin and pull out... whatever.

Normally, I play TopFlite Gamers, even though Bridgestone reps thinks I should switch to the e6 .

Sometimes, I think guys should have a spring wine and cheese party (or beer and pretzels), and we could bring in all our odd two- and three-packs and trade around and get a dozen of the same kind to allow a decent ball test over a few rounds.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I'm still searching for my golf ball. I've heard about ball fitting and I'm considering going for it, but I do want to find one ball and just stick with it.

I too am still searching for that "go to" ball.  The way I see it, the more balls I play, the better chance I have of finding that ball.  As of now however, my go to balls are the E6 or (a little cheaper and I'm not sure if they make it anymore) is the Nike Ignite.  Seem to keep the Ignite on the fairway more and has decent feel around the green.

I've used the e6 a few times, honestly couldn't feel much difference between that and the Nike Mojos (my cheap go to ball). My next ball is going to be the Titleist DT Solo and the NXT Tour. I'm not willing to throw down the money required to get myself some Pro VX series.

i use multiple balls also, now i am on burners because a softball board bro hooked me up with a good price, i figure once i learn to be better i will worry about the balls.

P.S. i have to use the little white balls, i tried softballs but they didnt go as far, i did always make contact though :)

I am not very loyal to anything. I like the feel of Titleist SoLo's and Bridgestone 330 RX's but I will also use ProV's as well as Noodles! The e series Bridgestones are great balls, but don't do it for me, but I am thinking of trying the Fix. I went to a Bridgestone fitting and was kinda on the edge between the 330 and 330 RX. I think I hit the 330 a little farther but the RX felt better. If I had to settle on one (or two), it might be the SoLo's for day in day out use, and the 330 or 330 RX for my premium tournament ball.

  • 1 month later...

Yesterday on a short par 3, elevated tee box, waiting for the group in front of me to clear.... I found what I believe to be the secret birthing grounds of golf balls 20-30 yards in front of the tee box.

In under 2 minutes found (about) 40 golf balls. Titelist, Callaway, Bridgstone, Nike, Slasenger, etc, etc.

I will no longer be buying any golf balls for quite a while now

To be completely honest with you I just play whatever balls I get from my uncle. He lives across the street from a muni and he finds tons of balls when he walks his dogs. He just gave me a bucket of about 100 balls, so Im set for a while. Ofcourse he keeps the ProV's for himself but I get the rest. Some are new most are middle of the road, but 100% Free. We plan to visit around the holidays and he already said he'll have more for me then. Eventually as I improve I wanna play one ball, but I think Im pretty far from that.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
