I'm sure you have all seen this, but in case you haven't.....

Perhaps it will provide some perspective.

And not just regarding the star of the story, but the other players

And my point is not that you have to be able to break 60, but that there are literally thousands of teenagers who can regularly shoot under par on good courses and in tournament conditions playing by the rules. Sobering stuff.

Of the hundred or so in this tournament I'd be surprised if one in 30 ends up being a playing professional making money.

If nothing else it should make the average weekend golfer focus on enjoying his golf rather than wondering how to stop hitting wedges 160 yards and whether changing to a Top Flite Gamer will reduce his scores, or whether "poor putting" really is the cause of his inability to break 80 even though he "consistently" drives 290, hits most fairways and can drop 90% of balls within 10 feet from 80 yards.

Interesting that he ended up finishing 4th with rounds of 74-59-71, 6 back of the winner's 198.  In total, 21 guys finished under par for the 54 holes.  Of those 21, I am sure that quite a few will at least end up giving professional golf a try, but only a handful will likely make decent money.

Meh.....LOTS of professional golfers make great money without every winning any significant money in actual "career earnings"......our site host/owner probably a great example......

I think its great to have dreams. When you break 100, then see. I think the steps are: 100 then 90 then 80 then 5hc then scratch. After that I have no idea. I would guess taking one stroke off par, then 2, etc. There are some really good players your age out there. My son is also 13 and plays just okay as compared to some of his play league team mates. He is working on getting in the 80s, but only hopes to get good enough to attract good universities. 100 is too soon for dreams of PGA, but I bet you like to play more now. Being able to break 100 makes the game really fun. Sorry didn't read the RE part. In any case leaving this for other 13 year olds.

Yes, these kids are amazing. We have two 16 year old girls playing the blue men's tee with 2 handicaps. One 15 year old boy drives 260, an Arcadia high 17 year old that drives 300 with 334 maximum. Sobering, but I never had any thoughts other than being able to enjoy a round.

Part of why I enjoy golf is the challenge to get better and be more consistent.  I find it fun to keep improving and I like to work on how to improve.  I guess that is part of my personality.  I play with friends who are the opposite and just play for fun with no concern about improving.  We both have fun playing but also don't like bad shots.  The difference is I will practice to eliminate the bad shots and keep improving.

    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
    • Please forgive the sweaty shirt.  Just got off the treadmill and decided to do my Evolvr drill.
    • I'd agree that 4w seems like the right play here. I'm not a course designer or anything but that hole looks like it could be so much more fun if everyone played from those front 2 tee boxes that are right outside your shot cone and they cut down most of the trees down that left side of the fairway. That would give risk reward to long hitters who want to try and push it up to that left fairway, allow more players to reach that second fairway, and still allowing it to be perfectly playable for someone who only hits driver like 150yds off the tee.   Yeah it looks like 4iron aimed at that inside edge of the right bunker is the play there, especially if you don't expect a 20mph tailwind again. If it is down wind again, 5iron would be just fine too, it'd still get you inside 150yds for your approach.  Keep in mind tee marker locations too, you measured that one from the back so if those tee markers are moved all the way towards the front of that box then 5 iron is probably best just to be sure that right bunker is never in play.
    • Day 1: worked on my drill for my arms.
    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
