Hello. New golfer from Corning, NY here

6 posts in this topic

Hello, I have just started playing golf. I have been interested in the sport for awhile, I watch on TV all the time (as well as play Tiger Woods video games). I have started trying to build a swing so that I can actually go out on the course with some friends or co-workers. I am from the Corning, Ny area. If anyone knows of a good way to get started properly, please let me know. Thanks!

Great to hear you've taken the game up - it's a wonderful journey!

The key is to have fun and persevere!

100% of people who give up trying don't succeed! Just play and practice and you will get there!

Welcome!

Greetings from Ithaca!  I just started playing this year myself.  I started by taking a few lessons.  I probably could figure it out on my own but the lessons jump-started my progress and saved a lot of time and frustration at the range.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Thanks. I started out trying to figure everything out on my own. I quickly realized that would take forever. So I have taken one lesson so far (plan to do more) and it has helped alot. That along with reading some helpful tips on this site has really helped me on the driving range make better contact.

Poughkeepsie NY here...a great resource for you could be the book "How I Play Golf" by Tiger Woods.  I still find myself looking at it after a round/range session.  There are pictures on every page as opposed to just trying to read something and figure it out.  The book does a great job of explaining basic fundamentals and has pictures to compliment the instruction.  You can prob pick one up on amazon for under $5...money WELL spent!  Good luck on your journey!
