Has anyone ever gone to a course with in house babysitting? I had a thought the other day at my home course. I am standing there thinking, "the YMCA has babysitters when you work out, why not golf courses too?" That would just be awesome. :-D

With the way a lot of courses are taken care of, do you really want them taking care of your children?

Well I was implying that they would have a CPR certified and some other history of babysitting history opposed to the daughter of the superintendent of the course or something. But yeah I would want to make sure that my cell phone was on at all times too just to be safe. :-)

With all the bad behavior I see on golf courses I'd be most worried about what type of kids would be there. Not sure I want Jr. playing Candy Land with the children of the guy I am following around yelling f-bombs, throwing clubs and spitting tobacco all over the greens. Not to mention the amount of alcohol that flows on courses probably isn't a good mix for kids. Even the little rural courses I play can get pretty rowdy in the clubhouse.

My club has a kids night every friday night through the summer in conjunction with couples night golf.  The kids take over the pool area and there is pizza and ice cream provided.  Lifeguards on duty and supervision to watch the kids.  They usually get a really nice turnout.

What would the hourly rate be? $10 - $15 ?

If you're paying $80 odd to have your kids looked after while you play you'd expect that to eliminate some of the yahoos.

Or is the expectation that this service is offered free?

Why not just hire a babysitter like you normally would? You're going to be out longer than you would be if it weas just a night out.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

When the wife starts complaining that I've been playing too much and I really have the itch to go play I just tell her to call the sitter and go have a girls night with her friends. It works......sometimes.

My children are at an age where they don't require someone to watch them but if they did, I wouldn't want them at the club with me.   Leave the kids home where they are in familiar surroundings with their favorite toys and videos.

I don't think a golf course would have to spare funds to have free babysitting so I have to agree with shorty that cost would be higher as well as get rid of some bad attitudes at the course. When I initially thought of this thread idea, my main thought process was I work four days a week at 11 hours ( nights by the way :~( ) 5:00 pm to 4:00 am. Friday morning. When my wife works Fridays which are here and there, I could bring my boy with me if no other available sitter is available. I definitely would not choose this as a first choice but seeing how Friday is mostly the only days I can go ( I work as an EMT on the weekends) it would be cool to have the option.

I'm already babysitting my golf course.... Every time I play I have to fill in 5-6 ball marks on the green, rake the traps and fill in divots... Stoopid tourists...

On a serious note I suspect quite a few families join family friendly clubs/courses. Some of the best here aren't private and membership is somewhat affordable, $139/mon for a family. Two I frequent have pools, one has a volleyball and tennis courts. Both have weekly family nights and membership buys more than green fees. I played at one of those courses on Wed and it was swarming with kids near the clubhouse. They do a buffet that night, we call it mcnugget night. Probably will be going there again tonight because it's prime rib night with couples rates for golf. Really more of a buddy night since most of the "couples" are dudes.

Ha! Most of the couples are dudes! Love it. That's like two guys joining a gym to get a couples rate. :-P

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
