club question

9 posts in this topic

Hello.

I recently got some clubs off ebay and I got them for a really good deal (i think) manly so I can learn how to re shaft a club and how to re gripe.

When I got them I noticed that the ferrule is separating from the club head.  What would make it do that?

Thanks

Either the ferrule has slipped which is pretty common and an easy fix (usually) or the head is separating from the shaft. I vote "A".

I just search for info on that and the ferrule are not moving so im thinking its the shaft coming out of the club head.

Thanks for the help.

How did you come to the conclusion that the ferrule hasn't moved?

Most of the post I have found in my search said that if the ferrule is not movable then most likely the shaft is coming out of the head. I cant even twist of budge the ferrule.

I will take some better pics of all of them tomorrow.

I don't care what you've read. I'd bet money and give odds that the ferrule has slipped. Take your hand and twist the head. The ferrule thing is pretty common and this and my 1st time on this merry go round. So I know of what I speak.

I would agree that most likely the ferule has slipped. Take a pliers and twist the ferule a bit. Probably loose. Put a few drops of epoxy cement onto the shaft below the ferule, wait a moment and twist the ferule down into place. That's it.

I wouldn't use pliers on the ferrule. Run it under HOT water for a minute or so then see if you can slide it back down into place.

I looked at the 7 iron and it looks like its bent or the shaft is coming out at an angle. I sadly used pliers to try and move the ferrule and it did move and I got it part way down but the iron is at and angle. On the other irons i got the ferrule to sit flush with the iron.

I wanted to reshaft these irons anyways and get them fitted for me. I like to tinker with stuff so this should be fun (really into the rc airplane building).

Thanks.

    • XE1 Wedge: Have you tried it?
It may be great but at what cost?  Not willing to lose my dignity to possibly save a shot or two.  Plus I love my jaws wedges with the md grooves. Straight ?.
    • Donald Trump for president?
Well said Mr.  Desmond the funny thing in all this is that somehow poor people support Trump against their own best interest. And call bernie a communist despite not really knowing what that or socialism is or the difference between the two.
    • Donald Trump for president?
Bernie says the system is rigged - stats since the 1980's prove that a great amount of wealth has shifted towards a very small percentage of people. Does that not concern you?  Walmart employs people with such small wages that their people are on welfare, so the argument goes that Walmart is a huge beneficiary of living off the government tit. As to Bernie's war against financial institutions, can you doubt that Wall St helped out the 2007 Depression? Completely irresponsible behavior based on greed. Hedge fund managers get capital gains rate on their compensation? Ridiculous. How many people do you know make over $10M on ordinary income? That is where he proposes a 52% tax that become 73% when one adds SS and Single Payer taxes, and then you have the state income tax, so it would get high. And it is too high, but he would not get that through Congress unless we truly had a revolution and all the Dems came out to vote for the revolution. If all Dems vote, Pubs lose except in areas so gerryrmandered that the one party it favors will always win. Bernie on guns? He won't take away guns, it's not in his record. Bernie is not snake oil -- Bernie and Trump are here because of the last 30 years of growing inequity, political correctness and divisiveness. If we do not address it with traditional politics, then eventually people will wake up and vote their interests, which would be Sanders  or a similar politician. It is time for change, the last 30 years have been tough on all levels of the lower and middle classes while the upper class have the "let them eat cake" attitude. That only takes one so far before people vote for big change. I asked a 20 something the other night who she likes, Trump, Cruz, Sanders, Clinton - I said Clinton would work with the other side, Bernie wants a pipedream - she said "I want Bernie." I just said if you want Bernie, you better get out the vote because it will take a lot of young people to do it. Before I am "labeled" again, I don't think any candidates in either party are to my liking. But I think we do need incremental change ... now to reverse some of the last 30 years and renew the American Dream -- it should be for all, not 1%.

    • How do I organize a charity tournament to be a raging success?
Try and get individuals to contribute.  If you have a hundred golfers each contributing a hundred dollars, that is 10,000$.  Easier sometimes than convincing a business to contribute say 5,000$.  The second thing is make it a fun family day with some events post the round.  Your spouse and kids will enjoy the day and you are more likely to spend some money.  Say a stall selling small knick-knacks or stuff for kids etc. Sad that you can get a stroke at 26, but why can't they figure out what is wrong with her anyway
