One more: The silent type - one hardly says a word other than occasional "fore."

That is probably the best description of me as a golfer.

That is pretty good!

I am probably the "borrower." I haven't bought a pack of tees in 5 years. They only cost 2 bucks, but for some reason, I can't bring myself to do it! Usually, I find enough tees scattered throughout the course to get me through a round (or I have saved plenty in reserve from the higher end courses that give away tees for free). But every so often - usually around the 14th hole - I'll ask my playing partners if they can "loan" me a tee.

I can confirm that Big C is the borrower.  He kept asking to use my 52* wedge.

Full disclosure: he didn't have his clubs with him when we played.

Yeah they should have the unsolicited advice guy.  I got paired with one of those once and it was surprisingly annoying.  It would be one thing if it was a tour player but when it's some random old dude telling you shit you already know...  I know, let's just call it John Madden Guy.

LOL, it isn't just golf.  I played in a charity poker tournament last night for the first time, and after I mentioned that it was my first tournament this old guy must have told me at leas ten times , "the key to this tournament is never go all-in pre-flop."  The funny thing is despite his claimed 40 years of playing he was the only one at the table who played out of turn.

shadow guy fersure

Well with that bust line, of course. ;-)

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I'm not any of them, but I play with the guy who walks across your line a lot.  ...and I'm often paired with "old dude". I would be "the guy who forgets to be social because I'm too interested in just playing golf."
They missed a couple that apply to me from time to time. Parallel Universe guy.  This is the guy who hits a drive that looks solid on a great trajectory, starting down the left side of the fairway and fading 10 yards.  The entire group is saying "great shot", to which he responds "I didn't hit it."  Conversely, this same fella will hit an 8-foot putt that misses high by a foot and say "I hit it perfectly, that's all I can do.  Just misread it".  This is the same guy who will bury a ball in a bunker on the short side and say "I hit it perfectly, only missed my line by 10 feet." Didn't see it guy.  You all know this guy.  He cuts the corner over the mounds on a dogleg and misses it just wide.  He gets down there and finds himself in a bunker/hazard that he "didn't see" and "had no idea" existed.  "I got screwed--I never would have taken that line if I'd known that was there." And this isn't me, but I love him-- Press guy.  This is the guy who loses 12 out of the first 15 holes, then invokes the universal right to "press" double-or-nothing on each of the last three holes.  Then loses all three of the press holes.
I'm the Parallel Universe guy in the sense that I hit a shot and someone less or equally or greater skilled than me says, "Nice shot!" Usually it is not a nice shot when this happens and it comes from a less skilled player, but it would be considered a good shot for them. I have high expectations and know what I'm capable of, so when I hit a shot I'm displeased with and someone compliments it, it irritates me. Also, I am probably one of the few people who would be mad if I got a hole-in-one from a crap shot. I'd rather have complete control and skill than any luck. Maybe I'm weird, but that's me.

I am not a PU guy but I, too, get annoyed when this happens.  Then again, I remind myself that at 16 handicap, it wasn't such a bad shot.   I just had handicap 5 expectation on that particular shot, that's all.

Yup, you are weird on hole in one crap stuff.   If it happened to me, I'd be amused, not mad.

I love that guy.

You'd like playing with me then.  Plus I'm really short, so you would get all the ladies...assuming there were ladies at the course, which there probably wouldn't be.

I take a lot of (divot-less) practice swings.  I also have left a heck of a lot of wedges by the green.  Putting them on the flag while putting has cured that problem for the most part.

I'm definitely the ball hunter. Sometimes on non-crowded days il go into the woods with a bag and come out with 30 ProV1s.

I admit to all of the above, at one point in time or another. I stopped when I started to have a rage monster attack in front of my kids and nephews. Now, I just try to keep my trap shut, and enjoy playing no matter what happens. Like someone said in another thread, "Golf happens".

I'm none of those guys but it was a funny video.

If I was a golf stereotype . .I'd be the "Golf Commentator Guy".  For some reason, I have to comment about every shot everybody in my group takes - including my own.  "Nice contact!" "Oh - got unlucky there", etc.  I also tend to comment a lot about thier lies, how hard or easy thier shot is, etc.  God forbid we're playing a course at which I have more experience because then I become "Golf Strategy Advisor Guy" . "long is dead",  "anywhere but to the right is good" , etc.  Seriously . .I turn into Nick Faldo (the commentator, not the golfer).

I obviously tone this down when playing with strangers or new people but my regular golf buddies get the full dose . .can't help it.  It must not annoy them too badly, though, because they keep playing with me, lol.

One of my regular golf buddies is "Forgot To Go Pee Before Teeing Off Guy" - he always has to make a run back to the clubhouse within the first 4-5 holes.  This same guy is also "I Need to Eat Or I Will Die Guy" - he whips out snacks every other hole, *has* to stop at the clubhouse for food at the turn, etc.  This same guy is also "Annoying Post Shot Routine Guy", lol.  Annoying Post Shot Routine Guy looks puzzled after every bad shot, sets up to an imaginary ball, takes some imaginary practice swings and hits an imaginary mulligan.  If it was once in a while .. ok . .but if it happens 15 times a round . .how can he be puzzled?  It's this puzzled look of disgust that really puts it over the top.

One of the guys in our regular group is "Great Guy to Golf With Guy" . . .he doesn't say too much ..or too little.  He usually plays well and never gets mad when he doesn't.  He is all business on the course . .no fooling around asking for yardages, no pre or post shot routine to speak of.  He doesn't even take practice swings.

The fourth guy is "Only Plays Golf to Get Out of the House Guy".  He doesn't know the rules, doesn't spend 1 minute thinking about golf on or off the course, shoots terrible everytime and doesn't care - I am actually surprised everytime he shows up.

Golf is a great game.

I started becoming a little bit of "Agrees You're Bad Guy".  If someone (usually a high handicapper, plays infrequently) hits some gnarly hook into the junk and gets all dejected and says "Hooked it..." I'll say something like "Yeah, that was pretty bad!" and then smile and laugh.  I think it lightens the mood a little bit and lets people relax and maybe hit better over the course of the round.

I almost lost my lunch watching the Rage monster.  Seriously, I almost died...hahahaha.

The whole video is awesome.  On few occasions, I have been the shadow guy and borrower guy.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
