If I was to get one hybrid what would you guys think I should get?  I currently have a 4-iron and a 3-wood.  My distances are probably around 230 for the 3 wood and 210 for the 4 iron.

If you are comfortable with the 4iron, I would start with a 3H around 20*. It should fit in niclely. If you like it, you could add a 4h around 23*. This might be redundant or at least have some overlap, but that is a good thing-you can taylor your bag to the course of the day.

Hybrids vary so much, that you just have to demo them. But probably something in the 19–20° range with a 41 inch shaft length give or take

I"ve been back and forth with hybrids so many times ... I play a lot of very tight courses & my 3 iron off the tee is my money club.    I'm able to hit it respectably well off the fairway if I choke up a bit.    I recently ditched my 4 iron for a 4 hybrid ... never could get much air under the 4 iron to hold greens.    Hybrid is awesome off the tee and with an easy swing is great off the fairway (no longer than the 4 iron though).    One hybrid is enough for me ...

Your 3W only goes 20 yards farther than your 4i?

You might start off by by analyzing your 3W. Do you have a shaft that's too stiff, or maybe an address problem that bleeds off yardage? See if you can find a way to get more yardage from your main fairway wood.

Then, fill the gap between the 3W and 4i.

IF you fill the gap as is, you would just have to find a club that goes 220 yards. That might be a 3H or a 4H.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Some people don't have a swing that generates a lot of power.  I probably get roughly the same distance on *average* with my 3 wood, occasionally putting a good swing on it and getting more.  I'm a mid 90's shooter.  I hardly doubt it's my 3 wood or the shaft that's in it - when I got fitted for my current driver the pro who was fitting me said "when I first saw your size and shoulder spread I expected a much higher ball speed from you, but you're not generating a lot of ball speed for someone of your size with your shoulders".  I have far from a perfect swing lol.  We high handicappers work with what we have, lol.

Everything I posted was an estimate. I don't know any exact distances.  My local driving range doesn't have very good markers for that and I am hesitant to post too high of distances.  I'd rather be conservative if I don't know.  One thing I know for sure is my 7-iron gets me about 165-170 because I hit a ton of them when I got fitted.  I have a fast swing speed and I hit the ball far with my irons but I'm not as confident with my driver.  I think the higher in club I go, the less hard I actually swing which results in my swing speeds for all the clubs not being that different.  Driver is still the highest of course but not by much.

Perhaps a better estimate would be:

4-iron: 205

3 wood: 240

more likely. I would say my 3 wood goes any where from 240-260 depending on how hard I wanna swing but my 3i is my "210" club but I don't usually make it there so its more realistically a 205 club or so. I would be shocked if you were getting your 4i 210 and your 3 wood only 230.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
