The Wife and I never go to the movies.  However, when our daughter comes home every once in a while, she brings movies and we have movie night.  She just left to go back to her apartment and college.  Anyway, we watched Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect II along with Divergent this weekend.  We had a great time doing so and I really look forward to these weekends when we get to be a family.

Coach (me) to player, "Hey, what percentage of putts left short never go in?"  Player, "Coach, 100% of putts left short never go in."  Coach (me), "Exactly."  Player, "Coach what percentage of putts that go long never go in."  LOL!

People thought Flight would be an action movie but wound up watching a meditation on addiction but it could have been a really great movie, certain aspects whittled away to make it appeal to a wider audience but these two scenes were amazing. Speak to the black box, tell your kids you love them, flight attendant.

And how's this for stealing the scene?

Watched Amy documentary and Whiplash on airplane flights this past week, and thoroughly enjoyed both.  Birdies to each.

Been listening to pretty much nothing but jazz all of this week - no idea why. :-P

Affleck Batman voice!

I didn't know Wonder Woman was in this. Mark Zuckerberg does The Joker as hirsute Lex Luther. Superman is doing Man from UNCLE. The other trailers were downers, this has a little bit of fun in it.

OK, lots of people crying spoilers w/resp. to Batman movie. Yes, it is, didn't realize it (spoilers don't bother me as much.) Here's a less spoilery version.

That Batman v. Superman trailer was... kind of bad.

Take out everything except Wonder Woman and the moment up to where Wayne talks about clowns and I'd like it a lot more.

Also, Henry Cavil is just not charismatic. I don't know if it's because he's having to an American accent and his focus on that is sapping his performative energy or if it's the writing (Oh, wait, Zach Snyder; it's definitely the writing), but he's kind of trash.

I'm still going to see it, because I'm a huge Batman fan, but this looks bad.

I saw "The Good Dinosaur" with my 9 yr old son over the weekend. Haven't sat in a theater with that many children in years... good Disney movie about family in dinosaur form.

Mad Max. Holy freaking crap, that was insane. We had to pause it in the middle for a bathroom break and I felt like I hadn't breathed in an hour.

Eagle.

The action was so viscerally intense. And great acting by Furiosa. Felt like she had more screen time than Mad Max.

Rocky - Eagle

I enjoyed The Good Dinosaur, but it's very straightforward compared to Inside Out, but kids will like it more. There were some head scratching moments in it. Sam Eliot as a T Rex rustler worked.

So true. What's funny is that I didn't find it gruesome though. I was prepared for that but it turned out that it was a different kind of violence.

I really enjoyed the build up of trust and respect between Max and Furiosa.

I liked that too. But I could've done without that tender moment at the end, where he tells her his name.

Just watched Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Birdie!  Very good story.  I hope there are many more sequels to follow.

Independence Day: Resurgence. Nice beard, Mr. President. In addition to films watched this year that appealed to nostalgia: The Little Prince, The Peanuts Movie, Mad Max, Jurassic World, The Man from UNCLE, Terminator Genisys, Spectre (nostalgia is batting 3/7 imho)  and soon Star Wars.

I can't get excited over this though. It looks very re-hashed.

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
