I've always enjoyed watching the AT&T; Pro-Am at Pebble Beach (mainly because it's at Pebble Beach) and have had several daydreams about how much fun it would be to play alongside those guys in that setting.  Also, to a lesser extent, I have had the same thoughts while watching the Bob Hope/Humana Challenge.  It's not Pebble Beach, and the Professional Field always seems to be a little weaker, but still, it's the PGA Tour.

Has anybody else ever wondered how you get invited to something like that?  At least as far as Pebble is concerned, I always assumed it was tournament sponsors, celebrities, and friends of players, and I just figured that the Bob Hope was similar.

WELL, WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT I WAS WRONG AND ANYBODY*** COULD PLAY IN THE HUMANA CHALLENGE PRO-AM?!?!?!?!

*** Well ... sort of.

Here is (a portion) of the PDF brochure I received this morning (from the Golf Channel Amateur Tour) explaining what the week would be like:

Pretty cool, huh?!?!?!  Now, does anybody (who doesn't already know the answer because you either also received the email, or you're just privy to this type of info) want to take a guess what you have to pay for something like this????

Until I got to the bottom of the page and saw what it would cost.  Here's that sheet again, without the bottom cut off.

Gulp!!!

EDIT:  They also have the traditional Wednesday 18 hole Pro-Am if you can't afford the 29k.  This one is "only" $5,500!  LOL!!!!

This reminds me ... gotta go check the Powerball jackpot. ;)

$29,000?  That is the same as a Starbuck's latte grande in Silicone Valley, right?

I played in one a number of years ago and it was very nice and a lot of fun. They do treat you well.  If it is on your bucket list, you should do it.

Looks like fun, $5500 isn't bad to play golf with pro's, but $29,000 is really steep.  I'm guessing you get a lot of nice gifts with the $29,000 package such as custom fit clubs, special golf bag.  I know for some of those types of events the gift package includes a Rolex along with some other expensive luxury items that get donated for charity.

There is so much I could do with $5,500 or even $29,000.  I love golf but playing with a pro just isn't that high on my wish list.  Hell for $29G's you could play the top 10 best courses in the country (open to public play) multiple times.

You know, looking over that whole package, it's pretty impressive. Play your cards right and you might get your pic taken with Bill Clinton and/or Fehrety (not bad). Heck, if you are ambitious you can make some of it back at the top shelf open bar :)

If I was in the position to be doing $25K/year in charitable giving, then I'd do it. It's going to be fun, without a doubt, I bet you'd have a blast even with the 125th money winner, in fact, that dude is going to be sure to make the experience memorable since he's not a big star.

Looks like the food it going to be awesome, the amenities...awesome, social events...awesome, valet parking...awesome. If you've ever wanted to be a big willie, then this is one way to do it. Not to mention that you might play on the weekend...priceless.

All that being said, I have no idea if this is reasonable in comparison to other golf experiences.

Why do they call golf "golf"?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

I took a lesson with an instructor who has lots of students on the minor league tours and the day I was there, I was sandwiched between two of them, hitting from the same giant bucket of balls I was using. That was like fantasy camp, but practically free. Their ball flights were pretty much the same as that you'd see in a pro event. One guy was hitting his 3 wood off the deck 270 yards, just pounding the living sh$t out of it, he was like 6'3" and lanky. It's fun to hit balls and the turn around and watch how you really hit a golf ball. Plus hearing the inside scoop on mini tours goings on.

That said, I'd love to play a round with the pros, just not in a public setting.

I think it would be fun depending upon the pro that I got grouped with.  If it were a pro who I couldnt stand, it wouldnt be fun at all.  I can only imagine what it would be like if I got paired with Phil or Poulter.

Most people who play in pro-ams dont live in the real world though.  To them, $29K is pocket change and dropping that kind of money to play in a pro-am is nothing.  To each, their own.  If youve got that kind of coin and want to blow it on a pro-am, I wish you all the best.

Id agree though, I can think of about a million better ways to spend that money than on playing in a pro-am.

what would really stink is paying all that money and getting paired with a guy 125th on the money list no one has ever heard of.

Well, I imagine that the marquee players don't get paired with random schmucks, however, the brochure does say that you get a new pro partner each day. Chances are at least one of them is somebody you've heard of. Course, it could be Rory sabbatini too. ;)

Should we start a TST fundraiser for Golfingdad?  If we get to 29K he gets the money, anything short of that goes to @iacas and myself :-D

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
