You wake up in a parallel universe tomorrow where you can only play with seven clubs. What seven would you pick? Any reason why you'd pick those Seven? Here is my break down in no real order:

Putter-Can't Golf without it.

Driver- I use it on all par 4's and 5's

Sand Wedge- It can also be used for chipping and pitching.

3 wood- I have a high lofted 3 wood and for no real reason I'd pick that over my 5.

4, 7 & 9 Irons

Seven Club Set: Driver/10.5 - I am consistently good off the tee with the driver and on long par 4s & 5s it would be advantageous to be long and in the fairway. 4-wood/16.5 - My 4-wood is a versatile club for me and I picked it over my 4-hybrid as my "distance club" because of that fact. I can crush it off the tee, silky smooth it off the fairway, choke down on it for long par 3s too. 5-iron/27 - The longest iron I carry and I can mash it if necessary. 7-iron/33.5 - I have to quote Roy McAvoy here, "But then there’s the 7 iron, I never miss with the 7 iron. It’s the only truly safe club in my bag." 9-iron/41 - I can do all the wedge stuff with it, chip, 1/2 shots, 3/4 shots too, a go-to short iron, versatile, and I can hit it full up to 120. Sand Wedge/57.10 - I have to be able to get out of the bunker. Plus I can chip with this club too and open it up for flop shots as well. Putter - I need the flat stick to roll 'em true into the bottom of the cup. Drive for show; putt for dough!

Honestly, I bet I could score within 5 strokes of my usual average with these clubs, maybe better.    Would be fun to try sometime

Driver - If I'm hitting it poorly for the day, I'll leave it in the bag.

4i - Longest iron I carry, would be my primary driving club b/c I haven't hit my woods well lately.

6i - My favorite iron, everything after this is to try to maintain decent gaps

This thread is begging for an on-course challenge!

I don't use seven different clubs to play my course now. I could go out with a 7I, 56º and putter and probably shoot better than I do with the other clubs.

Modern Bag: Driver, 3H, 4H, 6 iron, 8 iron, PW, putter Vintage Bag: Driver, 4 wood, 4 iron, 6 iron, 8 iron, PW, Putter. This is what I would most likely do, though admittedly I would probably better off in both cases with 3 wood instead of driver.
