So yesterday, I went to the range against my better judgment, only because I wanted to try something Mike said may be causing my pus/pulled shots. My back as some of you may have read, isn't in the best shape, my spine is twisted, and curved, and was kinda sore, but I thought, I'll just swing easy, and maybe limit them to 3/4 swings.

As always, I stretched a bit, but not enough, that was stupider #1 also I should have stayed home. anyway, about 1/2 into my bucket of balls I take out the 7 iron, at first making some low punch shots, then I thought 1 good smack won't hurt, there you have stupider #2.

Now any adult with any amount of common sense would have stopped, and gone home, Not me, Stupider #3

To make a long story semi short, not only is my back hurting pretty bad, but I believe I pulled my right side chest muscle, my guess is I sung out of my shoes once which was enough, Stupider #4 So now I'm guessing it will be a week or 2 until I can get back to hitting balls.. :-(

At 65 yrs. old, you'd think I would have known better, just shows what golf will do to a person...LOL

Dang it hurts to breath deep..

I have been going to them since 1988 they help for awhile, but nothing long term. So no, I haven't been to one in at least 5 yrs. I also found out that I have arthritis in my back, so that doesn't help matters. I'll just keep stretching ect, and do what I can

BTW Mike, my push draws, seem to be the result of me and my swing path, I was coming across my body, insted of swinging toward my target..

Yes. Or an ortho? Or a spinal pain specialist? Or a physical therapist? (I've seen them all and they've all helped in different ways and to different degrees)

Glad you were able to figure out the path issue.  Regarding the back, I wonder if there is any corrective exercises you can do.

Here's something that helped me a few months ago when my lower back was sore when I first started doing kettlebell exercises.

Some people react better to orthopedist instead of Chiro. Chiro pops your body back into the "normal textbook" condition, Ortho works with your body instead of the textbook, so it puts you into "your normal" which depending on your body's history may be quite different than the textbook. If you've had limited success with Chiro it might be worth trying out Ortho.

In my case, my most success was with a physical therapist. And with continued stretches since (planks, planks, a few other things, planks, and one more ... Oh yeah, planks;)) I've stayed in golfing condition ... Knock on wood!

In my mid-30s, I have a somewhat related problem: Inflammatory back syndrome.  Mine is caused by inactivity which results in backaches in the middle of the night, so more golf actually helps for me!  However, strength training works even better, which in turn tightens up my muscles and hurts my golf swing.  Ah well, regardless I just pound rocks at the range until my golfer's thumb starts to flare up and then I have to quit before I really create a problem (tendonitis?).

...Dang it hurts to breath deep..

Amazing how whacking at a little white ball can get us all so worked up. We really have no one to blame, but our own obstinate behavior. :-P

To top it off, the injuries from golf are not like ice hockey or football injuries. No excuses, like "That steroid filled linebacker..."

Hey, I just met a man who can't even reach down to pick up a ball, yet he still insists on golfing. Mentions that he still hits 250 drives as well. It must hurt.

It's not stupidity, this game does something to make your brain somewhat less than reasonable. :loco:

Stupider #4 So now I'm guessing it will be a week or 2 until I can get back to hitting balls..

Having been there myself many times, based on what you wrote, it will likely take more than a week or 2 before you can come back.   I only mention it b/c if you are coming back too soon, you will have to open another, even more stupider thread.   Take care.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
