Just thinking out loud - do you think the current Nike driver/fairways in even the most competant hands are capable of beating the guys who play equipment that most look at as superior  ?      Not Nike bashing - in fact I now have a VR-s 2h & 3w that I like and am phasing into my bag ... just seems that using Nike equipment (driver/woods mostly) seems to be a disadvantage right out of the gate that even the best might not be able to overcome ... maybe even the Nike ball could be holding them back compared to more established tour balls ??

Am I onto something or way off base at the tour level even considering this arguement ?    Just seems to me it is a possibility that Tiger's equipment may hold him back from winning majors ...

Nothing would benefit Nike Golf more than Tiger Woods winning a major (besides Tiger winning 5 more majors). For that reason, I have to believe that he and Nike are doing everything they can to put exactly what Tiger wants in his bag. (My other reason is just what changes do we expect Nike to make? Are Titleist's or Mizuno's or TaylorMade's irons really going to make a differences in Tiger's game? Is a 913D2 really going to make Tiger hit it straighter? Doubt it.) EDIT: Last point. Tiger won 5 times this year. Are his Nike clubs self-aware enough to tell when he's playing in a major and when it's just a Tour event?

I think a good amount of tour input into making Nike clubs come from Tiger, especially the irons. Nike will make Tiger a custom wood or driver to his liking, such as the smaller headed Dymo in 2009. For the Covert woods, he's got Nike to make him a glued version rather than the adjustable neck and it probably won't end there.

Equipment is not Tiger's issue. The stronger field and his diminished mental toughness would contribute to the majors drought.

Best Regards,
Ryan

So who voted yes?

Because Tiger gets to put whatever he wants in his bag, so his equipment ain't what's preventing him from winning lately.

That's it... it's the pressure of performing and being consistently in the spot light for any and every move, word, look he does...

The expectation of greatness at all time that he created in the past decades is what he's battling against...

with that said I do believe that Nike equipment is not as good as others... see Rory, Watney, Casey, Dyson...

So Tiger played PING equipment and won 14 Majors thus far? Nike Equipment was good enough to win 5 times on tour last seaon. Are we saying the equipment gets nervous during Majors? I dont know how may times I've read on this forum it's the Indian not the arrow. I have to believe that tour guys talk, and they know more about the equipment than we do. If Nike equipment was in anyway inferior they would not have been able to sign Rory or anyone else for that matter. Bubba could win with Wilson Clubs just like Tiget could win with Cobra etc. But dont take my word Im a Nike Guy with a 23 handicap. LOL

I voted no, obviously this is a "fun" thread to throw out there during a lull in the golf season but the reality is if Tiger saw something or hit something better, he'd give it to Nike engineers who would create an exact Nike replica for him to hit just like they did with his putter.

Or spray paint it the way Phil and Calloway did with the TM SLDR driver.

I voted no, I feel that the field is so strong now and he is not as young as he was. Plus he must have so much pressure to win and don't forget his injury's to take into consideration.

Of course, it's not holding him back. Tiger has input on clubs and can play whatever he wants.

Rory had other distractions last year, and given time, he has adjusted his Nike equipment and golf ball.

Who really thinks that Nike equipment is inferior to TM, Titleist, Callaway et al?

Not me. Different? Yes. Inferior? Not if your comparing the same level of models.

Exactly. If they were inferior, trust me you'd be able to tell...
