So this winter I'll be hitting from a heated stall that plays by the half hour with "unlimited balls."

Would it be best to speed up the pre-shot routine to get the maximum amount of my time? Or would that be counterproductive?

Counter productive. I have the same problem in the winter. Heated dome that charges by the hour but the only way to make it economically within reason is to hit 3-4 buckets (80 ball buckets) in an hour. Machine gunning balls like that just makes me sloppy and ingrains all my worst flaws even more so I just don't bother.

I wouldn't go to such a range.

I would....assuming there aren't other more traditional options. But I wouldn't allow myself to get caught up in the cost piece. Plan on an hour, do what you need to do, and accept that you're going to pay for the convenience of hitting balls in the dead of winter in a locale where you ordinarily couldn't.......

I don't have many other options...there is a golf dome further away. But I think I can get more bang for the buck at the heated stall one.

I think you can get more out of working diligently at home in your garage than you can trying to resist the temptation to fire balls quickly.

How much will a half hour cost? Because when I'm practicing well that's about ten or fifteen balls.

Whoa, I actually think I just found a better place...

http://mngolfacademy.com/

$40.00 a month for unlimited time.

Stop thinking price matters when it comes to practicing. It's never how many golf balls you hit, it is the quality of practice you put in. You could easily hit 10x less in the amount of golf balls and get better gains in your golf game.

Yeah agree with what the other guys have said, it's about the quality of practice, not the quantity of balls you're hitting.  Some of my best practice is at home in front of a mirror.

$40/month - 12 month commitment, but compared to $30 for 55 minutes prime time (ouch), a great deal. Looks like a cool place though. Well designed web site as well.

Speed range work is inefficient cardio at best. I'm not much of a range rat. Range time is free at my home course with a membership or paid tee time, they have pyramids of balls out open to close. If I do show up with enough time to hit a few, say a half hour, I might hit 10-15 balls in that time. Usually just take one club. I'll use my PW to work on slow-mo stuff before moving on to full swing practice with pre-shot routine and then I pitch/chip a few to the closet target. I do most of that stuff at home, haven't hit a driver on the range all year.

I rarely bring my driver to the range as well, I'll hit 3W off the deck but not very often.

Lots of times I notice this at the range. This guy hits like 10 or some number of drivers one after another. Like a fusillade of bullets or a metronome. Boom, boom, boom. Then sits and rests and repeats. Like someone in the weight room doing bench presses only not 3 sets, more.

I agree. Quantity vs. quality is a non acceptable condition. you're better off not practicing IMO. Even when I go out to play in a serious round, I would rather hit 10 balls to stretch out with a pace and tempo that suits my game, than hit 30 shots in the same time. All that would happen is that I would replicate that accelerated tempo, pace when I go out.

Funny thing is the guys doing this rarely realize the range is just 260 yards long.

Hi Group,

I had the same problem but found a good place ( I'm in Montreal, Canada) for practicing "Golf ONE" .

It's on simulators and the advantage is to get really good feedback  on every shoots you take.

The website is only available in french right now but no problem getting services in english on site.

http://golfone.ca

There again, you need not to hurry up and hit more balls possible for the time you pay.

That's the same problem. $30/hr when I may only need/want to hit ~20 balls in that session. I didn't see a monthly membership. You need to offer a membership of some kind if you want my business (and I'm in Montreal too) or an option to buy by the ball instead of time based charges. If you ever decide to offer those options PM me as I will likely be interested. Good luck though, I'm sure you'll get a fair bit of clientele.

    • In August, I am playing the World Am in Myrtle Beach. I do not know which courses yet, but should be a blast. Aside from that, those are the only golf trip plans, unless I play while on vacation in Destin in June.
    • Even on a perfect center hit I was receiving at most 1.48 smash factor. 10 days ago on the warming up for a round my Driver made a weird sound, I checked the bottom and it was cracked. Don't know for how long it was cracked but at least this time the crack was easy visible. Maybe it was already cracked before but with a more subtle crack?.. don't know. I'm waiting for TaylorMade to approve the warranty and send me a new head. I was using the Stealth Plus, I will take the opportunity and upgrade it to the Qi10 LS paying the difference.  On Sunday with my old Titleist 915 and softer balls I was reaching 1.5, even 1.51 on center hits. Test didn't went well. Only gained 2..3 miles, not worth pursuing. Figured out that with a ball and with a target, my path was way to in to out with this new idea, so in order to move the club in the correct path I needed to slow down to redirect the club on the downswing or aim more to the right, close the face a play a big hook.. not possible. I already play a big draw with Driver, more curvature is unplayable. Yesterday at home, with no ball messed around with a more neutral path, even swinging a little out to in. It felt a lot more in sync with the body. With a big in to out path it feels like my hands are working right, away from the body, when the body is working to rotate to the left. With the path to the left is was easier to apply force thru the hitting zone.  As always tested 10 swings with my current swing (A), and 10 with this little out to in path(B).  The difference was huge, like 12 miles faster with swing (B). I knew something wasn't right. The fact was that the PRGR was aligned more in line with the (B) path so it of course was giving higher speeds. I proceeded to align it with the (A) path and tested again 5 more swings each. Again (B) was faster but only by 5 miles. (Made a tiny experiment moving the PRGR to a more extreme in to out path and the swings register 25/30% slower for both swings, so it wasn't reading properly at that angle) Finally I moved the PRGR in the middle of both paths, and this time (B) won by 9 miles. Off course, this was without a ball and a target so.. I will be hitting the range tomorrow to see the real difference.
