Weather has been nice in Kansas City................

I quit playing Oct 31 when we lost daylight savings and bowling season started for my son, but I plan to watch him bowl in the morning tomorrow...................and I will play golf.  Forecast is for high 50's and sunshine..I need to................AT LEAST...........start thinking about knocking the ball around.  I normally play golf all year, but my son's activities take priority.

The weather has been really nice for the last three days. It's now Feb 1st and there isn't any snow on the ground. Matter of fact, it seems like winter has never really arrived where I live. Wednesday is suppose to be in the mid to upper 50's. I'm gonna try to get out to to my secret spot where I can drive some balls and especially give my new Big Bertha adjustable 3 wood a try.

Got out to play here in Michigan on Saturday. Very rare to play in January like that. Hit a shot into a water hazard that was still frozen, ball was sitting out there on about a half inch of ice. It wasn't worth risking it. Hit a nice "bunker" shot to about 3 feet off of some snow. Couldn't pull the frozen pin on number 1. Ya know, a normal round of golf.

Got out and played this weekend. It was actually pretty good Saturday. Tried again on Sunday and the winds blew us all over the course. Hit a five-iron on a normal seven-iron par three and watched it get knocked down into the hazard.

It's winter golf in Ohio. Forget the scorecard.

Well we got dumped with snow and it's suppose to continue until tonight.

I have to head back home from my business trip at the end of the week. There goes golf for awhile. Looks like February will be snowed out too. More snowboarding. Especially this Sunday when the crowd is very thin on the slopes.

People who live in Florida are able to tolerate hotter temps than I am able to. Since I live in the North country, I find that it's uncomfortable and my game suffers if I play golf when the temperature rises above 80, especially if the humidity level is high. My ideal temps for playing golf are 58-68 degrees.

When the temp gets down to 58-68. I put on my parka to play golf.  Might not even play when it's that cold.

You wouldn't like the Tampa area in the summer.  Temps are 96 degrees with near 100% humidity.  I sweat when walking from AC to my car if it's parked very far away such as at a mall or at work.  Walking in the summer, every piece of clothing will be completely soaked through.  At least if I fide, the wind generated by the cart will cool me and maybe evaporate some sweat.  I usually go through a fresh glove every 2 holes.  I hate it when sweat rolls down my nose when I'm standing over my putts.  That's when I yearn for upstate NY.

It was sunny and 40 degrees today and no wind so I was able to get outside to my secret driving range next to the local county course and drive a half bucket of balls. Of course I had to chase them all down myself but I didn't mind. I only wore a light windbreaker and it didn't feel cold but I would have preferred the mid 50's temperature range. Today was the first day since mid December that I have gotten outside to hit balls. There is no snow on the ground and the golf course looks very playable if it weren't closed. I was a little rusty for the first dozen balls but then I started hitting the ball pretty good and straight as well with my old Ping G2 460 cc driver. It was great to get out and practice.

I have a friend or two who live in golfing communities in the Kissimmee Fl area and they are always asking me to come down and play golf with them. Two years ago I went down in Feb and played with them, but only lasted 9 holes in the 87 degree heat with high humidity. The next day was the same temp so we just went to the practice area and worked on the short game. I also have a niece that lives in the Tampa area and have visited her as well. Nice to visit, but I like the cooler temps for golfing.

P.S. Just got some exciting news today. My wife got a small inheritance and said she wants to buy me some new irons. Problem is, I don't know what make or type of irons I should buy. I'm thinking I want some irons that feel right and are forgiving as well.

50 degrees here in Michigan this morning. Heading out to Carl's Golfland to hit a bucket on my lunch break.

It's suppose to near 60 degrees here today, and would like to hit a few balls but it's too windy, and the ground is too soggy.

It was over 60 degrees in Philly yesterday along with a steady rain. This was under 2 feet of snow a week ago but now I may even get to play this weekend.

Which course is that?

I used to live in Eagleville (near King of Prussia), and the winters lasted from early November to April.  It seemed to be always cloudy and cold the whole time.  I can't believe it's 60 *F in Philly this time of the year!

This is from one of my last rounds of 2015. I dunno if being on the other side of that little creek qualifies as a nGir, but it was a beauty pitch to about 3 feet. I missed the putt, under-read it (or under-sped it...) and missed by a hair on the low side. Sometimes I get too cute with the short ones, should have just rammed it home instead.

Man, I miss golf.

Is that your ball on the right side about shoulder level?  If so, where is your follow through?  Did you just stick your club in the ground? :-)

Is that Montreal?  I thought it was snow bound year round, kind of like the North Pole?

PS, It will be 60* here in Florida tomorrow when I golf.  Not a lot of snow on the ground though.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
