Looks like it's going to be a bit warmer Sat-Sun. Hmmmm....

There is a certain football difficulty related to Saturday. May be looking at 9 holes to get back to Troy by noon kickoff.

Sunday sounds wet, but I'll remain optimistic.

Us, too. A lot of it is starting to melt already. Roads are clear, anyway.

On the road up to my wife's grandmother's house for Thanksgiving yesterday. Most of the snow melted by our place, but she lives up in the hills and it's colder there. I love how it looks when the snow sits on the trees like that.

Winter sucks but it is not without its magical moments.

That reminds me of northern Michigan. Very pretty.

They're too few and far between in my eyes. The only winter activity I enjoy is hockey, and in NJ you really can't play ice hockey outdoors anyway (not to mention I don't play anymore because I can't risk getting hurt).

This was the perfect snow/winter storm. Real heavy and wet snow that sat perfectly on the trees for a beautiful look. Didn't have to do any shoveling :-D

I also like it when freezing rain hits the trees and freezes them over. Gorgeous.

That is pretty, but also super dangerous and costly (as you know). I appreciate the beauty, when that happens, but then spend a lot more time thinking about the downsides of that situation.

There are significantly fewer downsides when the snow just sits on the trees like in the photo above.

The only thing I look forward to in the winter is snow. If it's going to be cold, I'd rather it be cold and snowy rather than just cold and rainy or cold and slushy.

  • 2 weeks later...

Mid 50's and 60's here.  Was out for a bit Sat but the course really wasn't playable, goose crap everywhere. Two greens had so many turds it was impossible to putt.

    • I kind of like this interpretation especially if you think about it the unplayable rule would probably put you in a better spot.  using back on the line releief.
    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
