I think I've narrowed it down to the Callaway Razr X NG or the Taylormade Rocketballz. I'm going to try them out tomorrow, but right now what do you think the best Irons would be for this price?

I got the Cleveland CG-16 iron set 3-pw off Amazon for $400, which came from Overstock.com. After checking their website..they have quite a few brands to choose from....

I would test-hit the irons to make sure you like them, whatever model you pick.

I just bought a second set for a vacation home so i don't always have to travel with my clubs. I found the Nike MachSpeed clubs for $299. They are pretty decent. I would check them out if you can. I found them a little more forgiving than the TM clubs for $399.

Just the other week I got a set of pre-owned Ping G20 at Roger Dunn in Santa Ana. Perfect condition, and I'm very happy with them. At that budget point, I would seriously look at the trade-in and demo sets your golf store may have. Lots of people trade in clubs that are virtually brand new, no reason not to benefit.

After a lot of research I finally decided on the cb3s with KBS Tour 90 and boxed up my Mizuno Mp-14s. I loved the club head size and the fact they are forged. Loved these so much I just bought another set with the Matrix program 8.1 shafts. These feel exactly like the mizunos felt on a flushed shot except of more forgiveness on the miss hits. Your selling yourself short if you don't give these irons a shot!!!! Not just the best G.I. Iron under $400...... Best G.I. Iron period!!

Agreed i just purchased these same irons few months back have about 4 rounds on em so far and love the forged feel of the iron as well as the size of the clubhead everything feels so right and you can take a divot without a bulky club head reducing the force throught the ground! A+ irons glad you went with the cb3s

I have found that Global underestimates the condition of their clubs. The clubs I bought from them, they said in good cond. however the ones I got looked much better.

I personally enjoy and prefer Dallas Golf (dot com). I frequent their CRP Clubs (Certified Return Products) and that's where I found my 712 AP1s last month. Brand new, all but 2 clubs still wrapped, 4-PW+AW for $499.00. That was a deal I couldn't pass up and I had them ordered within 5 minutes of seeing them.

I've heard that too, and it's good to know that a long-time sponsor is under-promising and over-delivering.

Shame they don't operate in the UK, their stuff looks really good.

But to OP if he is still looking for clubs, try eBay and look for sets maybe 3-4 years old. Some absolute bargains to be had.

Got the clubs from Global Golf today and you guys were right. They are definately alot better than I expected. Except for a few scrtches on the bottom, they are like new. I would definately buy something from them again.

    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
