2014 Humana Challenge- Inside the Ropes Pics and Player swing videos

66 posts in this topic

Planning on driving out to the Humana Challenge next year for the Friday through Sunday rounds. To anyone that has been, do you have any general advice or recommendations for getting the most out of this experience? It will be the first PGA event I've been to.

Thanks!

If you want to help, post here. It's inappropriate to ask people to email you.

What kind of bullshit is that? It's that users decision whether or not they chose to email me. I have a lot of connections down here and would love to help out but I can't post any details to an open forum because of the obvious necessary privacy. My intentions are good, I'm trying to help. Take it or leave it

Thanks for the Pic's Mike. Brings back many great memories.

Question, What are the red signs which indicate a number of "steps"?

Thanks Club Rat

Number of steps just fits in with the health and awareness theme that Humana/Clinton emphasize this week.

I never thought i would see Gary Player with a (small) spare tire around his middle. And what kind of 'training' club is he swinging?

Um, that is just his shirt overhanging his belt, not his stomach. Gary Player is probably more fit than half the PGA Tour and those guys are half his age ;)

Awesome pictures Mike, thanks for sharing.

My boss is actually there right now and is going to be part of the Pro-Am part of the tournament.  In fact, my bosses Caddie at the tournament is the same caddy that caddies for Joe Durant.  He called my boss on Saturday from Hawaii at the Sony open, where he was caddying for Joe, to confirm they will be working together (of course, my boss was super excited)..  It's Kinda cool because Joe Durant won this tournament when it was the Bob Hope Classic in 2001..  My boss should have some interesting stories when he gets back which I will be sure to share when I get to talk to him about it.

Great pics.  PGA West looks to be in immaculate condition.  It is always interesting to see the varied compositions of the tour players' bags.

I'm no expert - that's for sure - but every once in a while I look at a swing and have to ask myself .. how are you a 17.7 !?!.  How long have you been playing?  What's your driving distance?  It could be just camera angles or the fact that I'm not much of an expert on other people's swing issues . .but it looks to me like your swing is pretty good!  I'd trade ya.
    • Lowest score you've seen?
I have played in a couple of the pro-am tournaments that the local pro tour, The Dakotas Tour puts on.  I played with a former winner of the tournament and watched him fire off a 65.  Watching him and some of the other pros play is fun.  He shot a 65 which was best of the day and you would have thought by his reactions he was over par.  He wasn't being a baby about anything, but he just knew it could have been a more special round as he lipped out 4-5 birdie putts as well.  Those guys have a different mentality when it comes to scores, but its fun to watch them plot their way around the course when they are playing for a livelihood.  This is the same tour that Tom Hoge came and played an event in his hometown of Fargo, ND last August.  He didn't win it either, took 2nd or 3rd I think.
    • Lowest score you've seen?
Ive seen some pretty low ones, but i feel like the most impressive round I've seen was a -4 or -5 round this guy i played with shot in sectional US open qualifying a few years ago. I don't remember his name - he may have just been a mini-tour or web.com player. But he had never seen the course before that morning. Really impressive.
    • Share your New Strokes Gained Data from GAME Golf!
Sorry if I missed it, but I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere yet:   Game Golf, which uses sensors on the butt end of each club and a wearable GPS device to track yardages, accuracy and efficiency for every shot you hit in a round, is adding a pin placement feature to its software that will allow users to position the hole in its precise location on every green. The company says the result will be enhanced accuracy on putting and short game distance statistics. “A database of pin locations does not exist in golf, so we are building the world’s first and most robust set of accurate data on pin placements and putting for the amateur golfer,” says Game Golf CEO John McGuire. “We’ve put the control for pin placement back in the users’ hands. The big deal is that the next players to play the course on the same day will see automatically accurate pin placements and can truly plan their game strategies.”     http://www.golfdigest.com/story/game-golf-now-giving-you-pin-placement-option-chance-for-dollar1-million     and   New Pin Placement Feature:
The first advancement not only helps golfers track more accurate putting stats from specific pin placements, but also helps other golfers who will play the same course on the same day. Using GAME GOLF LIVE or the GAME GOLF App, the new Pin Placement feature allows golfers to select the edit button on their phones, zoom in on each green and drag the pin to its precise location, resulting in putting stats that are 100 percent accurate on every green. "We track more data on more golfers on more golf courses worldwide than any other company," added McGuire. "A database of pin locations does not exist in golf, so we are building the world's first and most robust set of accurate data on pin placements and putting for the amateur golfer. With this advancement, we've put the control for pin placement back in the users' hands. The big deal is that the next players to play the course on the same day will see automatically accurate pin placements and can truly plan their game strategies." The new feature also allows for precise adjustment of ball locations on the green relative to the pin, further enhancing the accuracy of the data. The pin placement feature is currently available on iOS (iPhone) platforms and coming very soon to Android systems.   http://www.worldgolf.com/newswire/browse/92198-GAME-GOLF-LIVE-ANNOUNCES-MAJOR-UPGRADES
