2 posts in this topic

I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years

My current handicap index or average score is: mid 80's

My typical ball flight is: very high, small fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Fat shots with irons, the main thing hampering my game

dg it looks to me like you have a lot of very nice pieces to work with there.  I think with a little more direction you could get even better.

The only real advice I can give you is that you should take a look at the posture thread, as you have an s curve in your set up and your feet seem to be square to target which is really an old way of teaching people the golf posture (also not the correct way).

I think this one change in my swing really helped improve my contact!

Also, I think you will find there are many other threads that can help improve your golf game, including this swing thread, but like the the disclaimer you probably read, the more you participate in other threads you will find more people willing to come and take a look at your swing, and you will be on your way!

Just a thought!  Welcome to the site!

Snuck in six holes this morning. Things aren't all bad. Started off with an honest double bogey, double bogey, bogey, triple bogey, which for me is great.  Usually ball striking is my main problem, but for the first few holes it was short game and putting, which is fine.  I actually overhit three greens in the first five holes, which never happens for me and says I'm getting more distance on my irons in real game conditions. Was going to play nine but things started to fall apart on me and I decided to quit while I still felt good about things.  This is the first time I've gone out and felt like I have something to build on.
    • Playing extraordinarily long courses
      By davechen · Posted
Recently I played Bethpage Black, which was extraordinarily long.  I'm not a long hitter, and we played from the whites, but that was still 6773 yards.  There were a lot of long par 4's, over 400 yards, including one that was 457.   For me, I just had to reset my expectations and accept that bogies would be a good score on a number of those holes.  I'm a bogie golfer, and since it was such a long, hard course, I was just hoping to stay below 100.  So I was happy with my 98.  As it turned out, from a handicapping standpoint that was it was one of my best results.  The slope of that course was crazy, 145, because it's so long. So my suggestion is to just accept that a course is long for all the players and not let it psych you out.

Except it's only really unfair for the Pirates considering that if they hadn't switched to this format last year then the Cubs would be playing golf right now.  It's certainly not great - I would like to see them simply go to a 3 game series and cut the next round back down to 5 (assuming that dates and lengths are their stumbling blocks) - but Cubs fans would probably prefer the one game coin flip to no playoffs at all.
