I guess I don't really know understand what the north and south course thing is about. I saw the Humana Challenge last week also utilized a couple different courses.

I think the reason for using multiple courses is to benefit early season (less daylight) playing, If they only use one course, then the afternoon field may not complete their rounds, due to darkness.

Also on the west coast, they often have "fog delays" which really screws up getting rounds completed.

It also enables a larger field of players to participate, especially when having Pro-Am events.

Next week at Pebble, the event is played over three courses.

Somewhat bold prediction: the winning score on Sunday is going to be -8. Same exact score as the day 1 leader.

very bold

Isn't that running? That doesn't necessarily mean a human can't produce more doing something else.

According to Wikipedia: When considering human-powered equipment, a healthy human can produce about 1.2 hp briefly (see orders of magnitude) and sustain about 0.1 hp indefinitely; trained athletes can manage up to about 2.5 hp briefly and 0.3 hp for a period of several hours.

Don't they have to go to the bathroom at some point?

After watching Tiger yesterday, I'm beginning to wonder about him  wining another major.  Big issue; putting.  He just doesn't read putt very well now.  Driver is as troublesome as before, iron may be rusty for the first game but the putt is something he used to be above and beyond.  Now he looks just average PGA pro.

I saw some misreads yesterday, but 27 putts for even par at the south course doesn't exactly raise alarms FOR ME yet.

Tigers whoa's yesterday were drives running just slightly off the fairway into the rough.

That lead to missing greens and when he did hit the greens, he had long putts.

He did miss a couple of opportunities for birds, which didn't help.

It's still early, he has the game to light it up.

Spieth is doing better today, but Walker is still in a funk paired with Tiger.

This was clearly Tiger's B- game. Where would most players be with their B- game?

I think Phil is playing with his B game also. he said he was having back problems. I have a funny feeling that a "dark horse" may win this..?

Both Tiger and Phil look very uncomfortable and "average".  I mean one guy won 8 times professionally there and the other guy 3 and lives right next to it.  Maybe they can bring some excitement for weekend.

Well, Jordan Spieth is leading, so that should provide enough excitement for some.

The average pro wins 5 times in a year?  Do you know how many pros have EVER won 5 PGA Tour events in a single year?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

maybe because 90% of the audience wants to watch him play ? maybe since 90% of the last 17 years of golf are tiger built. and therefore 99% of the anouncers buying commercial time want to have him on the tube.

could also be that 50% of the pay raise for todays winners are due to tigers attraction.

he's the man. many want to watch him win or loose.

did you watch rory win the us open ? what a dull play ! nobody cares. nothing sells.

I like to watch Tiger when he is contending, I don't when he's not. I would just as soon see the guys leading, playing good golf on the given day.  I really don't give a rip what the manufactures/sponsors want, but money talks. I'm in it for the play, not the celebrity.

I hope Jordan get the coverage today.

Jordan Spieth is something special.  I hope he can continue to play at this level.

    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
