Windy day: Driver or stinger 3 wood?

2 posts in this topic

Hello! Recently, the course that I always play in has become quite windy (30kmh +) and whenever I tee it up i'm stuck with the dilemma of playing driver or switching to a shorter club in order to play a control shot with roll out. Whenever I play the driver I hit it on a high launch angle but I am also concerned that a head wind would have me lose too much distance. I just cant seem to play those driver stinger shots because i've become accustomed to an upward driver strike and when I try to punch it, everything goes wrong. This is less of a problem I guess with the 3 wood because I can punch it with my relatively level strike with it, but am afraid of losing too much distance. Which would go further that is, a normal driver shot, or stinger 3 wood against the a strong head wind?

Launching the driver "high" in wind can be ok as long as the spin rate is appropriate for you swing speed and launch characteristics.

To decrease spin (if you need to) check this out

Guys, I Need advice. I am currently playing X20 tours with s300 shafts. I am looking to migrate to XR pro but now KBS shafts are on most callaway sets! What KBS shaft is comparable to my S300?! I was looking at the Tour Tapered-c or project X 5.5! but not sure! Your input is much appreciated, thanks!

No shottracker is more then just a website issue offcourse. To keep the scores updated they are always pretty good actually. However I just sent them a tweet a few days ago since it seems like they have errors since this last week with a disappearing scoreboard. That's pretty bad.

Welcome to the site. If you had hit that first putt in the video I would have said that you had a chance, however since you missed it I have a hard time giving you the thumbs up..  Check back though when your HC is at a +3 / +4 and another video of you hitting that same putt and I will reconsider! Good Luck!

Well, after reading this thread, I'm going to try it.    Figure my best opportunity would be a nice fluffy lie in the first cut, not off a tight fairway lie ... I like pulling off unusual shots, so why not choke up a little and give it a go ...

It could affect handicap if it pushes one of your ten best out of the last twenty but only by whatever the difference is in the next lowest score that replaces it. But if your handicap is legitimate that score is probably close as your 11th best. The movement would be minimal.
