Why do you play Mizuno?

I have to admit that coming from an engineering background, it was this video that first turned me on to Mizuno irons.

It just made sense that a forged iron would feel different to a cast one. I've since learnt that isn't necessarily the case, but by then I was hooked on Mizuno anyway.

Honestly? I like the way they look. For me that's one of the most important things about irons, or any club for that matter. If they don't look good then i have no confidence hitting them. Also, I'm a bit of a poser. I like the "status" of Mizuno.

Yeah, that's a no-brainer for me, also.

Though I'll have to say that none of their non-forged irons have ever grabbed me. If I was going to play cast-iron clubs, I'd look elsewhere.

Actually the feel of forged is just a sound quality. Meaning the ball sounds different. Alot of casted clubs today have forged or softer metal faces but harder casting body. They allow them to get good feel on casted clubs.  There is a video out there showing a developer for Mizuno taping two iron heads suspended just by a string. They record the sound profile for their irons to make sure they sound a particular way. Mizuno does take this sound quality to a higher level by aligning their grain of the metal on their irons.

Here are my reasons

1) The quality of how they make their irons

2) The look, they are just pretty, and I feel comfortable overtop of them

3) Shaft options. I had a handful of shafts I could choose from that were no up-charge.

Great looking irons, solid feel, and they're what I have. Irons are like beer, often the best ones are the ones that you have.

Yes again.

I'm also very pleased with the stock shafts on my MP series driver and fairways. It may just be me, but the Mitsubishi Rayon "Fubuki" shafts appear to be as good as any custom spec upgrade.

Lol, I wouldn't go that far, but they definitely have a high boner factor quotient (BFQ)...

Play them for a few reasons:

1) They worked best for me when I got fit.

2) I think they look great.

3) Consistent, sweet feel at impact throughout the set.

1. DNA fitting. I love the fact that there are no "fitter opinions" involved; it's just cold hard facts about your swing and several suitable shafts to try out with the heads. I also love the fact that the fitters will suggest only clubs that actually suit your game and not just the ones with the best mark-up for the store because if they didn't the whole fitting process would be undermined.
2. The way they make me feel about my swing. They inspire confidence straight away for me and I feel like I can make my best swing when I pick one up.
3. The feeling/sound off the face. They feel solid, soft and somehow beautiful (I realise this makes no sense!) off the face.
4. Looks. The only Mizzie irons I've seen in a long time I've disliked were the JPX 800's. Pretty much everything else I look at and love.

Of course as with a lot of things many of the above points are subjective. ;)

For me, its quality, performance and looks.  Ive tried just about everything but I always come back to Mizuno because theres nothing like them.

My Mizunos live in a Sun Mountain too.  Theyre perfectly happy there, although they keep temping me to buy a Mizuno staff bag.

Agreed; it's still a great bag. Mine are constantly complaining for a Mizuno Aerolite X Louder bag and the longer it goes on and the lower the price gets the more likely it is to happen. ;)

tomvk77 I did the same thing with the 59's. I decided I'd get some clubs that I'd be able to grow into and which would last me many years but I found the 59's to be a little (lot!) out of my league on mishits, hence the swap to the 825 Pro's which are much much more forgiving and better suited to my current skill level. ;)

I'm guess I'm lucky in the fact that if someone said "you must play these clubs forever" I'd still be happy to do so; there's nothing in the bag I dislike or that I think needs changing (that doesn't mean I wouldn't change if something clearly better came along though! lol)

How do you get on with the 825 woods? I've not tried them.

Looking forward to the release of the EZ driver/fairway too they look great. :)

Stumbled into my first Mizuno's. After much research, I went to Golfsmith to hit some new Adams irons I was thinking could be my next set. I was liking them as my buddy happened by and told me of our friend who had just bought some JPX 800's. I always thought Mizuno was a single digit handicap club and I was a bit over 10. The GS person (a college player), suggested I try the 800's. They were nothing special in my hands. Then she gave me the 800 Pro's. I don't know why (maybe it was the shaft) but I hit these great. I mean, the best I've hit anything.

So, confused by this sudden change from the Adams I planned to buy, I went home and did lots of research. There I discovered Mark Crossfield and his obsessive love of Mizuno. I watched his reviews, his comparison reviews, and read everyone else's reviews. I hit them at the store again. Wonderful. When I hit the sweat spot (which was far from every time), it was the best feeling I'd ever had with a club in my hand.

Golf is a head game and my head says Mizuno feels better, plays to more consistent distances, and makes me think I'm going to hit better shots. Is it a coincidence that my handicap has dropped a few strokes? Or is it that I try to get that sweat spot rush as often as I can?
