This is where Tour pros stop in to check out new equipment, fine-tune their game, get in some workouts or build workout regiments, practice their short game on the really nice short game area they have here, etc.

Can't guarantee anything, but if you post in the next two or three hours, we'll ask them the questions you post here.

At the end of the day Mike or I (or both of us) will provide a recap.

How long does the process of testing and tuning new equipment usually take before a pro will make a bad change? Which piece of equipment takes the longest? When will we start seeing the next line of woods in the hands of pros? Which course on the PGA Tour has the nicest practice area?

And just how very different are the pros clubs - after all of the fine tuning and such - than what we can buy off the shelf?

For example, if I had the skill and a grinder, could I mimic anything that their pros play with?  Or can Jordan Spieth, for example, tell them he wants a Vokey with 18* of bounce and they'll magically crank one out for him?

Is my made-for Titleist Mitsubishi shaft a big pile of dogcrap that's keeping me from hitting it like a tour pro? :-)

Honestly I am curious about loft and lie tolerances for "custom" irons. But i doubt they'll tell you "yeah those are way off."

I'm more interested in the workout routines, myself. What do they recommend in terms of building a good routine? How do they balance strength, power, and flexibility? Do they prefer body weight, dumbbell/kettlebell, or resistance bands, or is it a combination? Are there any "must have" workouts one should incorporate in a routine?

Why would a tour pro want a wedge with 18* bounce?  Bounce is a crutch for weak players--it would unnecessarily limit the versatility of the wedge (i.e. on tight lies) and the pros are good enough that they don't have to worry about chunking pitch shots.

And of course that is completely full of :poo: . :edel:

This deals with wedges.

In most iron sets, the numbered irons have 1/2" increment differences in shaft length. (I know, in long irons the increment is sometimes .625", to allow for only 3* difference in lofts).

In wedges, Vokey has 1/4" shaft length increments between types of wedges (in SM4 line, PW = 35.75", GW = 35.5"... ).

So, why does Vokey (and many other OEMs) have the 1/4" shaft increments in its wedges, rather than the 1/2" increments?

(Cleveland in its CG15 and 588 lines only has 1/8" increments between wedge types).

Thanks, WUT

Had a great day at the Titleist Oceanside facility. Want to thank Steve Ziff and Austin Tudor for hosting us. Steve fit me for the 714 AP2 irons with KBS Tour stiff shafts. Got to try out a few other shafts, Nippon NS Pro Modus3 Tour 120, True Temper XP 105 and KBS Tour C Tapers. My numbers with the KBS Tours were the best. Also got to hit all the new Vokey SM5 wedges, some really cool stuff with these new wedges. Best ones for me was the K grind in the 58*, 11* of bounce and the 52* in the F grind, 12* of bounce.

Sweet photos @mvmac !  Thanks for posting.

BTW, this putter would have been the club of choice for the Knights Templar.

DAMN, that had to have been a FUN day.

There aren't too many things I'd rather do than actually play a round of golf, but I think a day spent messing around there would have been worth it!

Oh lord please bless this holy putter so I may smite golf balls into tiny bits, and the lord did grin.
