Well, 11 months into this great ride, I finally broke into the 80's!!!! However it is a little bitter sweet, due to a significant melt down on the last three holes. I had a 65 with three left!!!! Great drive off tee at 16, left my approach a little short into a deeeeep greenside bunker. I am usually pretty decent in the sand, but it took me 4 to get out. Two putt for an 8. 17, I hook left out of bounds, bounce all around this hole for another 8...aaarrrgh!!! Par 5 18 into the water off the tee, couple of crappy iron shots and two putt for a 7. Total score 88. Here are the highlights. 3 over 39 on the front 9 125 out PW hole out for Eagle on 9. Couldn't see it go in because of a two level green. buddies played it off like I went past into the water. after milling around a little, I found it...in the cup!!!! 14 Fairways or GIR 34 putts (last week 43) So, there you are...big choke down the stretch, but I am still super excited to finally reach this goal!!! Congrats. Yeah skill is definitely there. Sounds like you may have started getting a little over excited at the end. (who would blame you, if I was playing that good, my 300lb ass would be doing backflips).

My advice, do not dwell on those last 3 holes. You need to get out there again and put up some good numbers ASAP

That's pretty amazing.  You should be very happy with your 88.  First time I broke 90 was with an 82.  Let's just say it sucks to break it by so much, and then be disappointed for the next year, still trying to break 90, but never get close to that crazy number.  Keep at it and you will break that 88 in no time. :)

OT but the company I work for just registered the generic version of Viagra. Did you all know there is a huge market for it? We will start mass production soon. Anyone want to be my friend? ;)

Nice round! and 14 GIRs is awesome, if you can routinely hit that many GIR you'll be seeing a lot lot more of the 80s and lower i promise you.

Did the OP really mean 14 GIR? That's amazing, not sure if I've ever hit that many greens.

Hey Joe,

Don't look at the scorecard, just record your score for each hole and move forward.  The worst enemy of every golfer is the 6 inches between his ears.

He says he was on 65 through 15 holes so if we assume the course par at 72 and the last 3 holes at play at a combined par 12 then he was only +5 at that point. I would assume then then if one hole he'd missed the green he bogeyed then he'd have had 4 three putts from 14 GIR which from the OPs handicap and purely the fact that hitting that many greens gives you a lot more chances to 3 putt then i would say 14 GIR would match to his score. But hitting 14 GIR for the OPs handicap is a terrific effort so fair play to him

That is amazing. I'm lucky to hit 1 or 2 GIRs in a round. If I hit 10 GIRs I would do a back flip, I would be so excited.

Yes I just checked.  The most I've ever hit was 12, 5 on the front and 7 on the back.  Then again, my best score every was with 7 GIR. ;)

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
