Hey guys, just thought I'd post something that I experienced today. Here's a little background first. I've been taking lessons with a CPGA certified pro with video analysis. He's taught valuable lessons and improved my swing ten fold. Effortless power. He's taught me about everything from generating lag to ball position, grip, stance, pre-shot routine, swing plane, you name it and it's the best money I've spent when it comes to golf. My swing speed with irons has gone from 68mph to 80mph and with a driver from 85mph to 105-108mph. With his simulator, I can now drive the ball an average of 270 yards, which I'm extremely proud of. I've worked very, very hard over the winter in his studio and an indoor range.

Today I went to a local simulator with a friend to "play" a round. This simulator was incredibly inaccurate. My drives were in between 140 and 150 yards with a hard slice. My 9 iron was 70 yards, 7 iron was 90 yards and this is when struck pure with a solid swing. I complained to the owner about his simulator and of course his response was, "it's your swing, not the software." My buddy was having the same problem and he's a good player, single digits. Has any one else experienced poor accuracy when it comes to a simulator? If it was something that I was doing in my swing then I would have no problem laying the blame on myself but that wasn't the case. Even if I wasn't swinging at my best, I could still hit my driver farther than 140 yards. That's ridiculous!! Just needed to vent and find out if any one has ever experienced something like this before.

This really bothers me because I know how hard I've worked this winter and I know how I can hit a ball and it's definitely not that poor. Even before lessons I didn't hit the ball that bad. This had to be the simulator, right?

Huh... If I'd had that experience I would've had the owner watch my swing and then asked for my money back.

Btw, I was using my own balls, Wilson D:25. The balls they had there was beat up, old balls. Most of them were really cheap, crappy balls. It was a brutal. A driver distance of 140 to 150 yards with a wicked slice is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe for someone who just picked up a club for the first time but I've been playing for a while and have been taking the game seriously for the last year with 6 moths of lessons, practice sessions and a lot of hard work. I have a full understanding of what it takes to have a sound, fundamentally good swing and I get a lot of compliments on my swing as well. I'm proud of it because I worked really hard and for this a**hole to tell me that my swing was the problem really pissed me off. Oh well, he'll never see my business again.

Simulators need to be checked and gauged from time to time. Owners and operators should know this if they want repeat business. My teacher has his software and equipment serviced about once a month by a technician so it must be fairly accurate. Plus, I know when I hit a ball flush and pure and with power.

Wouldn't bother me in the least if somebody told me my swing sucks (because they would be right). ;-) Also wouldn't bother me if somebody told me I could only hit a driver 140 yards. I love to bet on sure things and my wheels would have imediately started spinning about what kind of a bet I could make with the guy.

Yeah, you're right. That's what I said anyways. I'll be outdoors in a couple of weeks and everything I've learned in the last 6 months will show. Cheers.

I would avoid the place in the future.  The system must have been set up incorrectly.

I would have asked him how far he drives the golf ball and had him hit. We play on a 10-15 year old simulator, not sure exactly but it has been there before I moved here. Some days it seems way off especially with ball flight. My miss is generally a fade but in the sim it was snap hooking and slicing for my lefty buddy. Idk know why. Probably needed a restart.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
