My Swing (infoe)

63 posts in this topic
I've been Playing Golf for: seriously for two years now My current handicap index or average score is: high 90s My typical ball flight is: erratic but typically straight The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: slice for driver and bad aimed iron shots that will shoot out left or right but straight. Check out this article on filming your swing.  It makes it a lot easier to evaluate.

Hello Infoe,

I agree with boogie regarding the camera recording, it will allow everyone to see things much better.

However, from your video the first thing that should be addressed is your posture in my opinion.  Please take a look at the below thread and read it carefully and apply it asap.

The other issue after that is your weight forward, your back foot looks like it lifts up and most likely you aren't getting your weight forward enough, but we'll be able to tell a lot more when we see a Face On View of your swing.

It looks like a fluid swing though, so I think you should be able to fix your erratic directions soon.  Although I don't get how you can have typical straight shot and erratic at the same time, we can address that later :)

Thank you both for the reaponses abu3baid. With your two assesments on posture and forward weight transfer the first one that hits more home or rings a bell is forward weight transfer not being sufficient, probably why i rarely take divots. On the posture piece though im not sure what needs to be addressed?

Posture doesn't look awful so hard to say but if you get a new video up with the camera angle as per the thread boogie posted then i'm sure you'll be get much better feedback from the the very generous community here. :-)

Not sure where to ask this so ill ask here. Is the iphone 5s sufficient quality for this forum? Because it can do hd footage and in slow motion. If so i can get a tripod and retry

Yes the iPhone 5s works fine, just film the video horizontally rather than vertically and try to get it down the stance line

This looks awesome, i'm gonna have to see if i can find something like that or make my own for my galaxy s4. I currently use the gorrila pod mini and attach it to my bag but that things looks much quicker to set up. Also to OP, may i'll be corrected but i think people will prefer to view your swing filmed at as many FPS as possible so use the slow-mo feature. Best of Luck

Take a look at the thread and you will notice that a good golf posture will usually have a straight lower back with the tail bone slightly tucked in while there will be slight inclination of the upper back and the head will be down looking at the ball straight instead of down the nose.

If you take a look at your posture you will notice the dreaded S curve which from everything I have read will be one of the causes of back issues later on.

Also, try the above to start thinking about your weight forward as most pros have 90%+ of their weight forward by the time they get to impact position.

Good Luck!

thanks now that you mention it (i'm bad at taking written instruction and visualizing it) I do see how I have my butt out, stomach in and shoulders back...I do see that now...stick in your belly (literally) from the video above looks like a good drill on setting up the proper posture.

So I had the wife snap two pics of me, first one is bad (previous posture, i was actually still sore from my round on Saturday and felt it in my back) and the second one good? felt more natural more a bit like I was about to bend over to pick something up..I tucked the 4 iron into my stomach to practice the (good) posture pose.

Better?

Remember to get that camera angle down the stance line ;-)

Still too much arch in that back. Make it "softer", going to feel like the tailbone is tucked under you.

More like the green line and not the red line.

Even though we can't see it, can tell the head is moving too far to your left. Need to have the right shoulder go down longer on the backswing. Check out this video

So I'm jerry rigging the camera on a chair still, and video 1 is literally my first swing of the practice session. video 4 was one of my last so I was warmed up and focusing on what I was out there practicing on. posture, one piece take away (still needs more work), and forward weight transfer. Forward weight transfer being the main thing on my mind throughout my practice session. Any thoughts or anything jumps out at you that I need to address? Thanks for watching!

Mod: Embedded videos from URLs. Please take the time to do this yourself @infoe .

    • New GolfNow layout is Awful
Every customer is different, some know exactly what they want and expect you to execute their vision.  Others want more consultation and input from the designers as to what others are doing or what trends are on the rise.  Another factor is maintenance, how much time is required to keep the site updated, can the business maintain the site on their own or must that be outsourced, etc. There are numerous reasons why a business would redesign their site, such as; The business has undergone some fundamental changes that they want reflected in a new website The cost of maintaining the current site is too high The provider of their data has changed the feeds or discontinued certain elements of the data. Users have complained about how the site works The site is outdated or dependent on outdated technology or servers. They want a site that is "responsive" meaning the same site works on desktop, tablet and smart phones. I've never done work for a business that said they want to make their site worse, less user friendly, less functional or more frustrating for their customers to use.  My guess is that given the popularity of sites like GolfNow, that some standards were created for how the data would be distributed and updated to the GolfNow like websites from the different courses to make it easier for them all to get the data (the same thing happened to the airline industry).  The change to the backend likely warranted the changing of the front end as well. In some cases compromises must be made.  I've redesigned sites that were written in HTML, PHP and jQuery which are not easy for end users to maintain and update themselves.  The client wanted a responsive site that they could maintain easily on their own.  I suggested we develop the new site using Joomla, Drupel or WordPress as those platforms provided them with everything they requested.  They ultimately ended up with a WordPress site that was responsive and very functional but because of the platform certain nuances of the old site were lost. Users initially complained but we worked out some issues and over time they appreciated the more frequent updates and ability to easily view the site on their iPads and cell phones.  Website redesign like life is full of compromises.
    • Shorts On the PGA Tour (Updated 2013, 2016)
I don't think the PGA Tour's stance on this has only to do with "tradition." Ultimately the PGA Tour is a member-run organization. If they strongly wished for shorts, they'd vote to allow it. That they've not done so speaks volumes, IMO.
    • Donald Trump for president?
I heard something on the radio along the lines of New Hampshire having "super delegates" that will vote for Clinton regardless of yesterday's vote.  As far as Trump goes, my bottom line  is that he simply is not electable. Moderates, women and minorities aren't going to vote for that guy.
    • Donald Trump for president?
Just to clarify, I consider myself a committed Trump supporter, I like him. I am not a conservative in the traditional sense. Like anyone, I don't agree with every position that my candidate stands for, I do, however, agree on his main points re: immigration.
    • Putting downhill vs uphill (2x distance of downhill length) poll
Yep.  The first hole at TPC looks like they buried an elephant.  I lost a playing partner on that green. The course in the above posts I believe is The Bayou Club.  Checking tonight.  Not sure the hole number yet, but the green is next to the road.  If that's the course, I'll work out the hole number.  Their scorecards don't show hole layout, so I'll have to walk through the holes on the card. BTW, there is (or was) a hole at the Corry Pa muni (North Hills) that could have a 225 foot putt.  That's over 70 yards!  They don't make like that any more! Plus, the Links of Lake Bernadette has a shared green.  Haven't played there in a while, but as I recall the green was "U" shaped with bushes in the "U".  Had to putt to the bottom of the "U", then back on the other side.  Need to Google that later. St Andrews has shared greens but I don't recall any being like that.
